I know what I see as New Life and throwing mudballs isn't it.
Well... what about throwing furniture out of the window? It is a real tradition... Shooting with real guns into the sky? Also a real tradition... I know more, but they are too weird to write here. All these traditions don't seem to fit New Year Eve for me. Yet people do it - they celebrate New Year in their own way...
Just out of curiosity: have you not done New Life any of the other years you've been playing?

This is the first year I participated in any events... actually I did do a couple last year but not this one. I was just never interested before. The only thing that got me into it was I discovered I could get furnishings from some of the events.
And whether or not these quests are appropriate according to lore or not, they don't seem that way to me and it really takes away from any enjoyment I may have gotten from it.
Others may see it differently, and that is fine. We are all entitled to our opinions.

Embrace it, reading it all, correlating it to the story of elder scrolls, seeing WHY those quests are what they are, and for any entity's sake, do them all, AND read them before you say you don't like em, it's kinda alot like broccoli, try it first

I did the 3 I mentioned yesterday, one on each character, and I hated every second of it. When I went back today it was the same quests again on all 3 characters. I am not going to continue doing something I don't enjoy.
By the way, I hate broccoli, too. It's pretty much the only vegetable I don't like.

You can read them here if you don't want to do the quests.
The New Life festival is all about honoring the old and celebrating the new. They have a variety of festivities, some are serious and some are light hearted. The New Life Festival is meant to be a celebration but there also acts of giving, charity, and rememberance.
I am still unsure of why you want it to only consist of serious events, as I don't understand how you view it. It's kinda hard to hard to have a discussion of if any fit the theme well, if the basis of it not fitting is simply you not liking it. I know there's more to it than that, but as you've not shared I can't really see why else it would lore inappropriate.
So I guess all I can recommend is just read the lore on the quests that you feel most embody the spirit of New Life. They are here in the Wiki and you can also try cycling through them in-game. You won't get the same ones as the starter each day. It just cycles through them randomly til you've done them all.

It's not that I want it to be all serious. I just really don't see anything even remotely fun about mudballs, and running from place to place to place to dance is just tedious.
I don't like these type of activities, but even if I did I just don't see the connection with these and New Life. When I think of New Life I think of a renewal of the mind and the spirit, and giving New Life to others as well... not a mob of players all grouped up at the wayshrine tossing mud.
And thank you for the link. I'll take a look at it.

and not liking this type of activity and pretty much just going through the motions to do the quest can leave these quests looking odd. Ok, the yare intended to look odd since it is from varying cultural perspectives, but that is not what I mean. I think we all can respect just going through the motions to the tickets sometimes. I was not all that into the jester festival myself.

That is all I was saying, that these quests felt out of place for a New Life Festival. I see pranks, such as throwing mudballs, more fitting for the Jesters Festival.

Of course, RNG makes sure that you only see the quests you don't like.
But yeah, the solution seems to be: walk past Breda and go to the "Old Life" quest guy. It counts for the tickets.
