Training gear for magsorc (spell dmg or critical?)

I'm preparing to grind some CP with the New Life Festival XP buff, and mean to use either of my magsorcs, since I can kill mobs the fastest with them. So I'm thinking about the best gear for them. The training trait is self-evident, but how about set bonuses? Should I aim for maximal spell damage or critical chance?

I have planned to use full sets of Stuhn's Favor and Red Eagle's fury (gear) and for weapons Innate Axiom, but am now unsure if maximizing spell and weapon damage would be the best route instead of emphasizing crits. The aim is to kill as many mobs as fast as possible, so any other bonuses that don't help with that are irrelevant. I also have only a scattered and pitifully small selection of collected sets in my stickerbook, only 75 transmute stones and no realistically convenient way to get more fast. So it must be craftable sets. But which ones, is the question. I'd be grateful if someone could elucidate if I'm going a wholly wrong way with this.

    Depends

    - for large pulls like skyreach you can do heartland body, plaguebreak, velidreth/maw/grothdarr. Just keep up proxy detonation and spam pulsar

    - for brp, still heartland body + damage set ( whatever you have that can be reconned to training or bought overland for training + (1pc monster+pale order)/ monster set of your choice (whatever you can recon for 25 transmutes to training).

    NerfAS and Shill ruins everything

Skinny-meta-fake, graded D, and can’t explain the law of diminishing marginal returns.

I won’t post that Wes, I’ll get [snipped] for the last time

Thanks! The problem with these is, I don't have Blackwood yet (waiting for a sale), and no monster gear. But well, I have to see about prices in guild stores. If they won't cost too much, I'll try at least Heartland Conqueror. Looking at those sets' bonuses, looks like penetration and straight damage increase are paramount?

Crit is king on pve, but heartland provides extra “training” percent, like you have an extra training gear piece so it’s nice for exp runs.

You can ask a guildie to craft you heartland or craft it on a guildhouse. No need for blackwood.

If you don’t have a monster, just craft a 2pc bonus with crit like Assassin's Guile.

Yeah, Heartland is great, i am sure some guild mates will craft you some.

You can also add Death-Water's Guile - great stuff for xp grinding.

MA Lightning stuff on back bar and BRP Lightning on front bar also help ;)

OK, I have to see if any guild I belong to has a guild house where I could craft Heartland's or ask some guild mate. And if I can't get that, I'll just craft something like Law of Julianos & Night Mother's Gaze with some crit set weapon. Thanks, guys!

Julianos was the first set that came to mind, and NMG is always the second set I craft for new alternates. Although, with the hybrid changes, Hundlings Rage might be a very strong compliment to Julianos, too. Others are with New Moon, Seducer or Diamonds Victory. I think any of those will outperform Stuhns

It depends. But the thing is crit chance and crit damage gets better the more you have of both and the higher your Spell Damage and Max Magicka already is. While Spell Damage increase gets worse the more Spell Damage and Max Magicka you have.

Thanks! That was very insightful. I have to confess I have not really min-maxed the character in question, as I mostly solo, so it's not really competitive with serious players' end-game characters. I must check how her numbers are and do some rough calculations to see if dmg or crit would be more beneficial.

As for AoE and weapon skills, I do spam the destruction staff AoE attack a lot. On the other hand, I use Mage's Wrath as a finisher a lot, too. So maybe it's best to avoid sets that make skill use more expensive. Hunding's could quite helpful, actually, since Dark Exchange is my character's standard healing method. So any stamina increase wouldn't go to waste, whereas I seldom have problems with the magicka pool (outside of boss fights, at least).
