How often do you READ lorebooks, lorenotes, & bookshelves...?

Greetings Community, a recent similar forum thread question from another poster got me thinking & wondering...

How often do you actually read any NEW lorebooks, lorenotes, & bookshelves?

For me, i always try to read them but i also find myself skimming thru quite a lot , particularly when i'm in the midst of a side-quest. Furthermore, whenever i'm GROUPED with other players (in a Trial or Dungeon) i sorta feel guilty for holding up the group just to stand solo idle 'reading' lol . Anyways, i was just curious, in 2021 era of human-gamers, how much actual reading is still done within ESO & it's massive amount of lore.

p.s. Side question: How come certain lorebooks/notes will *glow* visually as being "undiscovered" (for achievements) but every so often, other lorebooks/notes that aren't glowing will still also count as being undiscovered (achievement counted) ? I noticed this recently in Murkmire map zone, so perhaps it's just a bug for that area? Or maybe the ZOS devs did this on purpose to see how many players would still click random lorebooks/notes even if they weren't visually glowing attention? ( *btw, i never use ANY add-ons )

Almost always when I'm solo questing in the overworld. I skip reading books in dungeons, nobody would wait for me to do that.

I've read most of the bookshelf books on my quester. The only ones I don't read are
    1. Duplicate books (there are a lot of duplicate books in bookshelves)
    2. Bookshelves in Delves and such next to enemy spawns (why ZOS) can't read em properly as mobs respawn and aggro
    3. 'The Last Year of the First Era' series books. Idk it's just boring to me

I did skipped stuff at times but changed my habits, now I'm questing only when have enough free time, dungeon quests are solo or duo depending if I need someone for a locking/group mechanics and random lore books laying around are saved for when I have a time for them. But it's kinda wasted nowadays because questing experience is night and day for me compared to pre-greymoor, a lot of stuff isn't meaningful enough to invest any time into in result, sadly.

There is no option for "Almost always, if I have time for that". The first option in the poll means literally always no matter what, and the 3rd option means that I'm 'not in the rush' just sometimes. In my case I try to read all of them except the rare times when I hurry for some reason or have to keep up with the group, so basically I read all of them but sometimes I feel like I better skip it.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

Yeah sorry about that. Although they're both pretty much same option, just i worded it differently.

I also realized , after i posted, that the Poll options can't be changed/edited once the thread begins. So since the question is "how often" , my 4th & 5th options are technically improper answers grammatically speaking lol ( if anyone cares about such particulars anymore :D )

The only reasons I don't read books are:
    1) I've read it before and still remember it
    2) I'm in a group and don't want to hold them up

Sometimes it's not very interesting to me, but since most of the books in ESO are incredibly short (a lot are just the initial 2 pages, and that's with large text) that's usually not a problem.

I also picked out 200 books to have in my main characters' house, and 4 of those to have around the place as ones they're currently reading.

It depends on what it is. I always at least skim it. If it's some dry history that's probably all I'll do. If it's light entertainment or something that looks like it might be funny like Inspector Vale I will read it. I read the Black Fin books while going through Blackwood because I wanted to find out more about her character. I read the flora & fauna guides.

Rarely. ESO has trained me that reading a lorebook invites a respawn of baddies on my head. Seriously, I've been attacked way too many times trying to read something to be bothered.

I check the bookshelves often for undiscovered books, but I don’t often read fully what it is that pops up. Usually just skim through them.

Always when I'm alone, if I intended to click on the bookshelf. Once in a blue moon, when I'm in a rush and don't have time to stop at every bookshelf, I'll accidentally click on one while trying to do something else, and then I usually close it right away, especially if I can tell it's one I've read before. But generally speaking, I try to read through as much as possible.

If I'm in dungeons, especially when using the group finder, I don't click on anything, unless there's a lorebook I need to pick up, in which case I don't read it unless I'm already waiting for someone else. That being said, I try to speedrun back through the dungeons to pick up anything I've missed after the final boss, either after everyone else is gone or if someone else has asked me to wait while they finish the quest, look for chests, etc. (If someone else asks me to hang around a few minutes, I will always do it, basically 100% of the time.) So if I'm not holding anyone else up at that point, I will read through the books.

Only do it to level random skill lines. Heck sometimes I don't hit any bookshelves on new characters until some of my skill lines are in the late 40s so I get the final points faster.

I read them if it is associated with a quest and there is a puzzle whose solution is hidden within the text. Anything else is just looked at to clear the lore book entries as I can go back later and read should I wish to do so.

If I wanted to read, I wouldn't be playing a game.

I'm a huge elder scrolls lore nerd. The story and history of the Elder Scrolls universe is what got me into the game. So I enjoy reading every book and note when I have the chance. Plus there are key story details you can find out that's not in the quest itself. Such as notes that show High Kinlady Estre communicating and working with Mannimarco and his Worm Cult to serve Molag Bal despite her worship of and allegiance to Mehrunes Dagon.

Almost always, i.e. when I play solo, which is most of the time at the moment. It doesn't matter how many times I have read them.

It helps that one of my characters purposely seeks out lost or discarded books on his travels and, once found, can't help but open the cover...

Having played the series since Daggerfall, I have read most of the books before this game came out.

Now i just read the new ones.

Most of the books, if you copy and paste the text, would not fill up a page in MS Word. Even multiple page books. So, they are short reads
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It's funny, because I'm super narrative-focused in how I play, but I don't tend to read them too much. I think it's because of how the books exist in the world--in the singleplayer games, if I see a book I want to read, I'll grab it off the shelf and pick it up later, at a more convenient time. In ESO, my options are either to A) read it right away at the bookshelf or B) remember to search for the book in Eidetic Memory at a more convenient time.

The system is fine, but when my character is going about her day, it doesn't really make sense for her to just drop whatever she's doing and read a whole book. Even if that book would fit in a single page in MS Word, heheh.

I've been playing ESO since 2013 beta and i never knew this lol ( i also barely ever tried 'deco' and only have 1 'house' , the ARENA, so that my GUILD can have a guild-hall ) . I'm gonna go search the Housing Forums later but in the meantime i figured maybe you or someone can reply with how....

If they relate to the quest I am doing and might hold a hint for a solution to a puzzle or something I will give them a read.

Other than that I will only give them a read if the title of the book peaks my interest.

Aside from that its just a case of interact with the book/bookshelf "new lorebook added to the eidetic memory message appears" then I move on with what I am doing 90% of the time.

You can buy the book packs from the Mystic trader NPCs (those who sell soul gems).
To get them available in the trader shop you need to collect all of the books of the appropriate collection in the library (J (Journal) -> Library tab). E.g., "Daedric princes 10/10", "History of Tamriel 10/10", "History and customs of Stonefalls", "History and customs of Eastmarch", etc.
Once you get the full collection entry, you'll find it in the Mystic trader shop. Those are containers with books inside. Get a book from the container and you'll be able to place the book in your house.
Note that to place them in a book shelf you'll need to put them a bit outside of the book shelf collider box, otherwise you can't interact with them 'cause they will be inside the book shelf collider.

In Skyrim I collected books in my house and occasionally logged on just to read them. Here, I follow a similar pattern and log in just to read my collected lore from time to time but rarely stop to read them "in the field" unless they pertain to the quest I'm on at the time.
