Need More Variety on Companion Customization

Loving the companion mechanic so far, however, I would like to see more customization variety for the companions like hair/make-up adjustments. When you visit a city all you got is an army of clones, adding varying options to customize the companion would make the companion feel more unique to the player.

I totally agree with you OP and I suggested this same idea on another thread about companions.

    I love the companions. <3
I hate seas of clones. :s

Yeah, it would mean so much to be able to change their hair, or put a hat/helmet on their heads. It's baffling why ZOS has decided not to do it. It would be such a simple thing, and so welcomed.

Pretty sure the devs said they have plans to eventually add the ability to romance companions. I would imagine they would probably increase the customization options with an update like that.

Yep, I am excited about the romance option. The issue is that they made the announcement almost a year ago and it is seemingly a significant update, but minor changes on customization could be added with any minor update imo it doesn't have to wait that long :)

They really need to let us use helms. It's very important for my romantic partner to wear a paper bag over their head.

Against. Yes, good, companions need a helmet. It would have been nice if the companions of other players had a different face model. But still, I am against free customization. Companions are full-fledged personalities, characters from their own story. And their appearance matches their character. Personally, I didn't even change their outfit. Although I have seen, for example, how Bastian was dressed in daedric armor, which completely contradicts the personality of this character.

I sure hope so because I don't find Bastian even remotely attractive.

What I'd like to know is if we do get into a relationship with a companion would they then be able to enter our houses? Otherwise things could get complicated.

Agree 100%. I want to change hair, add bling, a hat here and there. Most of all, I'd really like to SHAVE Bastian! I'm not a fan of the stubble look at all. It just looks untidy.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend, my Shining Light. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

As of now, if you attain the highest rapport with your companion they can already enter the house!

You get a houseguest, not the actual companion.

If we have romances with our companions that isn't the same a having a romance with a houseguest version of our companions.

Just to make sure I've checked again and it says on the companion info section that you can get a companion as a houseguest

I already have gotten both of these. They are houseguests and not the actual companions. If you are on PC NA I will be glad to show you.

EDIT: To clarify the houseguests are named Bastian and Mirri and look like them, only are dressed differently. They behave as houseguests in that you can path them but not interact with them as you can the actual companions.

surly changing their hair would be the same as throwing a costume on them and would at least mix up the sea of clone to look sligthly different.

I'm still waiting for costumes and other appearance tweaks for the assistants. After several years, I'm still running up to the wrong Tythis after summoning him. LOL

Yup, this. The dialogue is randomized rather than responding to specific dialog choices. I think it would still be a house guest, but it would be nice if their dialogue was a tree rather than random statemenrs so you could talk to them. It's more immersive.

I agree that being fully-fledged personalities they should retain their appearance, but just as we can cut our hair and shave IRL, I think minor changes to their facial hair is fine. I’d love it if Bastian could shave sometimes.

Oh no. That’s really not ideal. I don’t see the point in having a generic Bastian or Mirri in our homes. The houseguest should retain their customisations imo. And they should be able to dialogue with us.
I fervently hope when the romance feature is implemented, we get OUR version of the companions at home, at least.

Yes please! I want my companions unique from everyone else. Walk into an area and everyone's companions look like gold farmers because they are all identical.

Zos needs to add customization like a barber shop to the game. I mean, pretty much most mmo's I have ever played have this sort of thing. Why is this not in the game after this many years?

Either a table or an npc you could change looks and your companions just like the clothing table. Maybe put actual barber shops in main cities?
This is a much needed QoL addition that does not belong in the crown store.

I am just wondering how we can do it when they got own storylines. Won't it ruin lore for them?

I don't think Bastian shaving his beard or Mirri changing her hairstyle from time to time would break their lore. I agree that we should not be able to change their natural facial features though.
