Pickpocketing and killing NPCs in cities has become very difficult due to role players

    people farm monkeys for bananas

@VaranisArano: Monkeys can drop bananas as loot? I've never killed a monkey, so I had no idea!

@EveryoneElse: The question of morality within videogames and among videogamers is too deep, complex, and convoluted to resolve in this thread, and is ultimately up to the individual players to resolve for themselves. ZOS and Bethesda know this, and give us open worlds in ESO and other TES games where we can make our own choices. That doesn't mean they condone and encourage "bad behavior" in real life, and they often present us with situations where we must make difficult choices, and where we might do "bad" things for "good" reasons, or do "good" things for "bad" reasons.

I remember feeling sickened and outraged at Gulmon Droth and Sendel Droth in Kragenmoor for their talk about harvesting souls from slaves, addicts, and others. But then I turn around and blithely harvest souls from outlaws and street thugs when I fight them, so go figure.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I do not agree with griefing and think these issues should be reported.

    BUT...

A thief and/or assassin should not be doing these behaviors in full sight of others. Find targets away from the beaten path, or wait until the area is clear of guards or other innocent citizens before making your move.

Yeah, I've never experienced any of this. But, then again, if it's for an endeavor or something, I do all my pickpocketing and/or killing in the shadows like a good Nightblade should.

I try not to kill them as well, but one got caught in my AE one day. When I looted a banana... my wife and I cracked up for the next 10 minutes. I still get a chuckle out of it to this day... although I still don't kill monkeys, nor have issues with those that do. :)

My current main has been known to liberate goods from those who don't want to share. He has also been known to leave them sleeping on the ground.

Now while I do not approve of griefing, I can see why another player may be inclined to stop a thief or a murderer. For instance I've always thought that the murderer should be flagged for pvp for a short time after committing the crime. I understand that others may not feel that this would be a good idea, though I think it would be fun.

Originally, ZOS planned for there to be Enforcers that would've been a sort of PVP for the Justice system. They didn't, in part because they feared players colluding to exploit rewards.

Well genociding entire towns might be harassment to players who react to said behavior as well.
It ruins their immersion, if nothing else. Or are their dollars/euros somehow less worth than money spent from people who amuse themselves to grief others by killing all killable NPCs in a major hub?

It's not about one person's being valued over another.

These npcs were explicitly designated as justice npcs, but also to be clearly non-hostile. Some may even have a nice chit chat with you. Regardless, they are designed to be killed and stolen from. It is not griefing to use the content you paid for in the way it was designed because some random person got attached. You should reevaluate your playing of this game because npcs that were designed mostly to be murdered or stolen from have been a staple of this franchise for a very long time. It's a core feature.

This is just more of people trying to force their lifestyle on others using an MMO as a soapbox, they're just pixels, not real people get over it or leave the game but stop interfering with how others want to play their game. Now excuse me I'm going to go kill some PIXELS

Monkeys are easy targets for the endeavors that require you to kill foes with weapon or class skills or poison with weapon poisons. Most of the small critters are.

:) To the moralistically scandalized players I can suggest: :)

    Nonviolent video game

Just want to jump in here and point out that there are endeavors that require the player…

    Steal from the environment.
    Pickpocket
And use the blade of woe on townspeople.

So yes, those are intended (allowable) actions.

And I also feel I need to point out that the dead npcs respawn, they are not permanently gone from the game.

    I actually don't kill NPC's- I only pickpocket them

This is why you get grief bro, you leave empty marks everywhere! This totally prevents other people from pickpocketing btw lol.
So bare that in mind that if you do report them, because leaving empty marks is way more annoying than simply having your mark killed in front of you(you still get loot if you pickpocketed before, empty mark gives nothing obviously)

There was someone doing this in Blackwood-Leyawiin every night at around 11pm GMT, to such effect that sometimes every NPC in every house was empty(safeboxes all still there tho /facepalm); and I'd have had to kill them all to reset loot for the next rotation which means; I don't get nearly as many blue treasures as I would before I get capped. It sucked lol was losing thousands per day. I rescheduled my play time to avoid them.

I have no intention of reporting anyone, nor have I ever. I believe I already said that. I also stated that I have no desire to see the OP's rules implemented, though if someone does feel grieved, then I think they should report it and that it should be handled on a case by case basis.

You also get nothing when your mark is killed in front of you. So the annoyance is equal. I personally think its more annoying to have someone actively leap in front of you with the deliberate intention of not letting you have something, than having something passively left there with no bad intention at all.

I also want to say that it's interesting that you're getting empty marks, because in my experience, marks are not left empty after three picks. I can pick a mark, and my guild member next to me, who is not in a party with me, can immediately pick it again three times even after I have picked it. I've also seen other randoms pick the marks I've picked after picking them three times. I've seen assassins successfully pick and kill, and slip away with their loot.

I am also able to pick three times AFTER another thief has picked three times before me. So marks were never left empty for me by another thief when I wait my turn to steal.

I doubt anything you mention is the reason at all because people kill my mark before I get a chance to pick without even knowing whether I am going to kill it or not. It has happened to me with the first mark I target before I've even had a chance to steal. It seems obvious to me that this is because they assume I am going to assassinate it before they get a chance to. Those that actively follow me do so without every seeing me actually steal- they see that I'm going to and immediately kill my mark.

I have also never had this mentioned to me, ever, by anyone.

In contrast, I have seen marks also respawn empty. So there's that. I don't steal from marks in Leyawiin (too sperad out, too annoying- the draws and cabinets in the castle are better if I really want motifs or something there) so I wouldn't know what the situation is there.

Either way, it doesn't particularly matter, people do what they do.There are certain hours of the day when I can do my thing and no one bothers me at all. My post was simply to outline the fact that I find that other thieves and assassins interfere with each other more than outsiders, and that roleplayers are not to blame.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die
