Spindleclutch question

Played vet Spindleclutch 1 for the first time. I can't understand how to deal with the main boss. We had a decent tank and I was playing as magcro healer but less than a minute into the fight, all of us die off quickly; mainly because I, the healer was the first to die and the others have their food on cooldown. We tried it a dozen times but I fail to understand how I keep getting one shot at random points in the fight. I wear full light armour (worm's raiment) and had several support spells running at once. Radiating regen, illustrious healing, bone armour for myself, spirit mender and braided tether are all running at the same time but still get one shot while I am blocking.
I am not even actively attacking the boss. After the first few deaths, I played super defensively, which is why I stacked so many heals all the time and kept blocking whenever I wasn't casting. My group members keep telling me to block when the boss does its big attack but that didn't help. Putting aside the fact that blocking was no good in my case, I can't even see when this attack is coming. There's no animation or any timing to tell you something big is coming. The boss just looks like it's doing its regular attack, waving pincers at one of the players attacking it.

Anyway, my issue is that I want to know how to survive this thing. My gear wasn't broken at the time and I wasn't attacking the boss.

Check your death recap to see what it says, that should give you a clue as to what is killing you.

I regularly do vet Spindle 1 in a group of 4 dd's, once you understand the mechs it's not hard.

The boss in Spindle 1 has 2 attacks which do not obey taunt. She will spin around and point at a player and shortly after that, fire off one of the attacks. This can very often be a one shot on non tanks. If you see her turn around and face you, dodge roll to avoid the incoming attack.

Other ways to help avoid one shots on this fight can include damage shields for the group. Barrier if available can also absorb the shot. Raising group defenses with various buffs can help as well.

That's another problem. I've been one shot when the boss isn't even facing me, when it's attacking another player who's more at the other side of the room.

She really only has like 3 attacks, total. It's her ranged attack that's one-shotting, 90% of the time. Like stated above, you have to dodge roll when she turns to look at you. It's a quick attack, like banished cells 1 fireball toss.

The other deadly attack is the growing aoe on the ground that she does. You want to get out of that as quickly as possible. She will also occasionally do her "madness/hallucination inducing" attack right before, so you don't notice the growing ground aoe.

If you're not comfortable in the fight, just play the entire thing at range. I can't remember if she has a "chain-in" mechanic, like the dreugh king, but if she does, just back out of the range afterwards.

Yes she has a chain in mechanic, she will pull you in in her webs, turn to face outwards and dodge roll out as soon as you can as its often (always?) followed by the growing circle aoe

To add to the others, change your color settings. I've made my "bad stuff red" into a bright pink and "good stuff green" into a light blue. That way they stand out from the environmental colors and AOEs.

You can not survive the giant AOE that grows on the floor. You have to be out of it before it reaches its max, sometimes a bit beyond it as I've been killed by being next to it.

The other attack is the spiders swarm/shock looking animation. It gets stronger as the fight continues.

Healers should stay along the walls if possible and heal the tank. The tank's easiest method is to face tank the spider on the stairs. The best method for the group is to pull the spider over to the door area to give the rest of the group more space to avoid the big AOE, but it will be harder for the healer to heal the tank.

Finally, this boss has been known to glitch out. Moonwalking and inability to roll dodge have happened in the past.
