I would be more interested in a "please be quiet" option.

for example Bastion, "what are you going to make with that" , ...good place for harvesting, and all the rest of the maybe 10 so many times repeated phrases.

Because of this tireless barrage I only have companions active for levelling their skills or a specific fight, otherwise, sleep time for you Mr/Ms.

Now, now. Think how awful performance would be if all those helmets had to be rendered too. YEP

Performance was fine, for me; finding the actual quest crucial npc in a sea of companions, not so much.

As a console player I would appreciate this treatment everywhere. They're admitting the companions affect performance enough to disable them in Fargrave, what impact are they having everywhere else? Console is already struggling with performance issues, please do this in other areas.

It's still amazing to me that ZOS admits there is a performance and server issue, but also rolled out a mechanic that increased the population and the amount of character models to load by 25% (as a conservative estimate.) It seemed poorly thought out then, and is obviously causing issues that should have been foreseen.

That is irritating, especially from a roleplay perspective. Hopefully you can see your own.

This is the best thing in this patch and wish it worked in every city. Or have an option in game settings to turn off seeing other folks’ companions.

And I’m just generally annoyed with companions. Fishing, someone joins you, and their companion walks in front of you and decides to agro a nearby critter. That also happens with summoned pets, so not entirely a companion issue.

I get that people like them, they’re no problem in general overland stuff, but they just get too much into everyone else’s business. 🙂

Full disclosure: I do have a companion and do use him if soloing a WB or needed to fill out a group.

My "please be quiet" solution is also to keep them unsummoned until I specifically need to use them-- not so they'll be quiet, but so my inventory doesn't fill up any more than it already has with green Companion gear; the quiet is just a fringe benefit. :)

I personally dont see a reason why we see companions anywhere in the game but your own. Seeing 30 Mirri only breaks the idea that she is your friend and only adds lag. Only place I think you need to see other peoples companions is if you are teamed with them.

Deadlands dlc was different than past story dlcs because it became available to all those who had Blackwood on day one. For the first 5 days Fargrave and the Deadlands were hard to load, navigate and enjoy because of the army of Mirris and Bastians. I still don't understand the point of adding companions in an mmorpg. Players are supposed to keep company to one another and usually they don't have to mute each other, because they don't repeat the same stuff over and over again. But companions are now part of the game and we have to live with that. Today's change in Fargrave needs to be a rule, not the exception. My rig hardly tolerates a crowded instance. Companions make it worse.

    ^^ This. ^^
Definitely. Also, banker/trader/orc assistants should be invisible to other people as well.
Otherwise it all looks wrong and out of place completely.

Agreed. I regularly use a sorcerer character and even I find my pet to be annoying and get in the way sometimes.
Pets should just be auto-unsummoned in cities in my opinion. Or maybe just force unsummon when you interact with a crafting station or NPC so it doesn't block other players from being able to see/interact with them. Or just make pets transparent in cities so you can interact with things that are behind them.

Resummoning is just one button press and duelists don't generally fight in crafting areas so disabling combat pets in those areas would not be too disruptive.

Fargrave looks a bit more heavy in comparisson with other maps, an extra polish can help (too many objects and effects).

Other games when dealing with "followers" usually throws a generic visual to other players companions to keep it different (WoW main quests are an example), but companions are not generic bots, they got some level of customization that affects visuals. I guess the best way to deal with it is creating an option to hide them in cities and keep other companions "generic", to leave it lightweight out of cities (hiding should be an option at least inside cities, since there are some interactions while in combat).

The problem on keeping them generic or invisible is the interaction. Sometimes companions can aggro bosses or provide effects and some players like to show off their companios with different costumes or whatever. So, a thing not so easy to deal with, because fun for one is different for others... performance either.

I think they should turn off the ability to see the companions of others unless you are in a party with them, in which case I like/need to see the companions that belong to those I am playing with so I can tell where they are. Because I often play in a three man group, we tend to use one of our companions to fill in the fourth spot. I like to see where the companion is at especially if we are using it to tank something.

(I frequently help my mother, who is in her 60's, and father, who is in his 70's, play because they love these games and the questlines/dungeons in them, and the companion provides a much needed fourth person to fill the slot because playing with strangers makes them nervous. Companions make our runs much faster and have enabled me to help them through much harder content that they thought they'd never get to do. Then they get to relax, learn the mechanics, and enjoy playing without the pressure of worrying about being fast enough to meet the expectations of someone they don't know. Being able to see another's companion helps me orchestrate things in order to teach them mecs.)

The more elegant solution would be to solve the underlying problem and boost the resources the game runs on. Hiding companions is similar to shoveling dirt on dog poop - you may not see it, but it still there and it still smells.

Yes, you will be. It will be like most cities in Tamriel where you can see your own companions (and I think also those of any group members) but not everyone else’s.

It always has been, you only see your own companion in most cities (there are a few anomalies like Wayrest). I made a post about Fargrave companions when it first came out and many people claimed they saw others companions everywhere but no one could provide screenshots (except Wayrest).

I thought the title was a kind of a very early April Fools joke ... then I checked the patch notes ...

Oh boy ... is this now the way ZOS deals with bad server performance? Have you come this far, only to turn off content you just introduced yourself this year? I am (almost) speechless ..

Maybe the next best step would be to turn ESO into a single player game!!?! I am sure that would improve server performance a great deal!
