Questions about reporting players

I tried to submit a ticket through Feedback as a general question on how to proceed, but was not aware that section doesn't provide any response to me directly.

I have mentioned a long standing problem here on the forums with another player harassing me while trying to do my crafting dailies, but the advice I was given was to just move my characters to another zone or put up with it basically.

It's started happening again, and with other life stresses I am struggling to deal with this. It is not hate whispers or anything that I can block in text chat, I am getting hit repeatedly by the Murderous Shrike emote while trying to craft, turn in dailies, go to the bank, etc. Today I confronted the player and asked them to stop or I would report them, and they continued harassing me and joked about me getting enough evidence. I have heard of other players getting banned for reporting, I do not want this to happen to me.

I have video of the incident today, and getting hit on that character again after that, and also on another character a short time later. I don't want to upload to YouTube directly, because I will probably be accused or naming and shaming. I've asked in guild chat and everyone says just deal with it. Is there no Playstation support for this kind of thing? I feel I have enough evidence but the comment from the other player made it sound like they were sure I couldn't do anything about it, why else would they continue to harass me? How much evidence is enough and how do I get it onto the forums from my PS5?

I just want to escape, play and enjoy the game and forget about my real life stress. I mind my own business, get my crafting done and spend hours in another zone playing the game. I don't really want to get anyone into trouble but I just want to be left alone.

Don't post evidence on the forum.

On PC you can report a player in game, I assume you can do the same on PS5. If you can upload to youtube, do that but upload it as private, only viewable by those with a link, then you can send the link to zos but it's not naming and shaming because the video is private. Only they, and you, will be able to see it.

The player is confident that because it's not text chat that it will be hard to prove, that's why they're so cavalier, they don't think you'll put in the effort to do it.

And sadly, nothing will likely happen. I've reported the players who literally harassed me out of NoCP PvP but they're still around.

Report them tho, maybe you'll get lucky.

First off, yes, that's reportable behavior.

In a discussion about teabagging, Gina Bruno has said (emphasis mine): "As with many things in-game, context is very important. The act of standing and squatting over another NPC or character to teabag them can be considered a form of harassment which can be a violation of the Terms of Service (ToS). As with all forms of harassment, if a player asks you to stop a behavior, you need to stop. If you continue to teabag someone that asks you to stop, that is a violation of the ToS and may lead to your account being suspended or even permanently banned. Hope this helps clear things up"

ZOS has also disciplined people for spamming mudballs in disruptive ways, so there's certainly precedent there.

If you need someone from Support to check that your ticket is in the right place, I suggest you put the Ticket # in this thread and then @ ZOS_Kevin

Thanks for the helpful comments, everyone. After starting this thread and thinking about it for a while I sort of regretted it, expecting to get a bunch of “suck it up” type comments. I am glad to see that didn’t happen.

Yeah, no one likes that type of player. My wife and I quickly dueled in Vivec the other day for the endeavor, then 4 players followed us around spamming block at us repeatedly. While not actually doing anything, it was pretty annoying, so we had to port to a different instance to get away from the freaks.

Genuine questions here. First of all what does that emote do exactly, and does it disrupt interactions with crafting stations or NPC, like a guard hitting you or something like that? Because in that case I can see that being really annoying.

Also how does this player always know where you are?

In any case, though, yes, even if it's not an actively disruptive action, if you've asked them to stop and they don't comply I'm pretty sure it's completely safe to report them.

How can you get harassed in this game (outside of combatsituations)? From the top of my hat, I cant think of a single viable mechanic for harassing someone.

I think harassment is more of a perspective issue, something that might sound innocuous to you, could be very annoying or even disruptive for somebody else and ruin their enjoyment of the game.
I myself don't find the type of behaviour described by the OP annoying or even remarkable in the slightest, but if that's a problem for them, it should still be looked at.

I'll give an example where we know people have been warned and disciplined for it: spamming mudballs at people. Presumably other emotes that impact players can be used to similar effect.

In the quote I provided, Gina Bruno explains that context is necessary, but teabagging can also be harassment if you are asked to stop and don't.

Yeah I am pretty sure reporting people for harassment is pointless. I got this dude who anytime I kill him in pvp or even attack him he starts writing paragraphs of abusive speech towards me. I finally had enough of his language and reported him, but he is still going strong. Zos sends you an email afterwards just telling you to block them, yeah no [snip] zos. Obviously I can just block him, but you made rules and don't punish people who break them so whats the point? I got probably 10+ screen caps of this guys abuse and he ain't ever going to receive justice.

I see this player in Riften, where I park my toons for crafting dailies. I don't think this player ever leaves there as they are one of the duelers that congregate in front of the inn and between the crafting area and bank and the writ drop off location. I have to run through the group of them each time I do crafting dailies on each of my toons each day. As I am standing at the crafting stations, or moving from one crafting station to another, or running to drop off the dailies, or returning to the bank to place items for other characters, this player comes up to me and hits me with this emote - which is a squawky bird that splats blood on you and makes your character spooked for several seconds. Since I am on console and have no add-ons to help me, I am mentally trying to keep track of where I need to go and what to do that when I get hit with it it is disorienting.

Like I said, this has been happening on and off for years.

It has happened enough that every time I hear a crow squawk in the game I tense up because I expect to get hit with something.

Well I got all the video uploaded as private and got on the computer to fill out the ticket to report the player, but I can't figure out how to get the YouTube URL into the "add file" section on the report. The only option I see is to upload something from my computer desktop. What am I missing? I also don't see any option on YouTube that allows me to download the video to my computer, either.

Not sure how to proceed further with this. Any help would be appreciated.

First things first. Submit a ticket to Zenimax and provide as much evidence of the harassment as possible and what cannot be added to the ticket make sure it is noted you have screenshots of comments and videos of actions. At that point it is in the hands of Zenimax.

Zenimax, as with many companies, will not tell you how they handled the situation as there are privacy concerns (they do not want a lawsuit).

General advice when harassed in-game, but not making anything of OP's situation as I do not know the full situation. I suggest people never reply or respond to harassment. Doing so merely feeds into whatever psychological issues or deficiencies such people have that lead them to harass others in the first place. More often than not someone that trolls another in-game will move on if they do not get a reaction.

That does not mean all will, but most will. For those that do not stop, Zenimax would need to act.

To those who do harass and troll in-game. I have come across a player that made a very stupid comment in zone chat, not in ESO. It was the type of comment that you might hear about after someone acts out in a way that makes national news if you get my drift. The FBI did follow up on the tip I gave them and I sent them the screenshots I had taken. Ofc, it was probably nothing but I expect the person learned it is best to do such stuff again.

I think you can just paste the link in the text.

There was a button to push that said “add file” but no text box for me. It brought up a file selector window for my desktop and other locations on my computer.

EDIT: as for the comment about responding to harassment, I was only following suggestions by admins in the places listed in the thread that tea bagging is considered harassment if you ask them to stop and they don’t. So I feel I have to ask them to stop before I report someone.

Maybe you could copy the link to the YouTube video, paste that in a text file and save it in a text file with a brief comment, such as "link to YouTube video," and attach that text file?

Hmm, I see, well I guess that can be quite annoying then.
Looking at your other comments, if you have the original video file I think you can just attach that to the ticket, unless it's very large, since I'm guessing there's a file size limit.

Can someone from ZOS please help me with this ticket?

I am assuming that the interface for reporting players is set up for PC where you would use a separate video editor on the PC and the video file already be on your PC to upload.

I am on PS5 and using the video buffering on the console and the ShareFactory video editor that is available for PS5. My only option is to upload to YouTube and provide a URL to the video. There is no way to provide a URL on the ticket that I can find.

Otherwise I feel I cannot proceed without risk of not being able to provide enough evidence and possibly getting myself banned for false reporting. Also, I will have to continue to put up with the harassment and possibly more because I told the other player that I would report and I could not.

I am not sure who to tag but I am going to use the admins at the top of this category

Can you write down the url to include in the body of the ticket? A bit oldfashioned, but it should work.

Alternatively, perhaps one of the mods can have PM them the urn to attach it to your report.

So is there absolutely no way to download a video file from PS5 and save it on your PC so that you can attach it? Because if that's the case, then I guess the best thing you can do is incorporate the URL in the body of the ticket.

At this point though, I gotta ask, and don't take this the wrong way, since I still think that if this person is harassing you they should get punished. But, why exactly do you do your crafting dailies in Riften of all places, because I can't think of a reason other than the fact that you like the place, actually it might be one of the slowest, least efficient crafting routes I can think of. Again a genuine question here, it's just kinda been bothering me a bit, since you could move to say, Vivec, have one of the fastest, if not the fastest crafting route for your dailies, and avoid the [snip]

Riften is great because the wood, ore, and cloth stations are in the same building, the bank is next door, and the enchant station next to that. The drop off is close, and so is the wayshrine.

Vivek City is so crowded with players stealing and murdering all the NPCs.

Maybe it’s better on your server but not on mine.

I've done daily writs in several of the base-game zones, and enjoyed it in most cities, even if the layout isn't ideal for doing and turning in the writs as quickly as possible. If you aren't trying to do writs on multiple characters as quickly as possible, it can be relaxing to do them in "non-ideal" cities. I don't think I've tried Riften yet.

On the PC servers, Vivec City is always crowded, and it seems like there are always players who are dueling or just spamming abilities for fun (fun for them; maybe not for everyone else), and even throwing the occasional mudball or pie. I'm pretty good at just ignoring it all completely, but I can see how some players would get incredibly annoyed by it.

Reporting problems on the Playstation in-game is an utter nightmare. You don’t seem to be able to get a screenshot from your ps library to upload - when it says ‘screenshot’ with tickbox you have no control on what it takes, which does’t help if reporting bots, fir example, as by the time you’ve filled in all the boxes the bot has moved on….

To the OP can you report this behaviour via the website rather than in game? Might make uploading video easier? (Not sure if possible, just trying to find work around)

As the behaviour is unacceptable. And they should not have to ‘put up’ with it, or move areas.

From the top of my hat...

mudball someone constantly while they're at a crafting station
mudball someone at an outfit station
throw AOE spells while someone is at a crafting station
throw AOE spells that force an action, like pulling a sheathed weapon when in town for quests or writs
dueling in town
dueling in the bank
dueling over crafting stations
following someone who's farming and attempting to "steal" nodes and chests
running through fishing holes when that player is fishing

Unfortunately for many players, there are not so mature, not so civil, outright trolls out there [snip]

From my extensive research and years of experience, without a shred of doubt, urn-ing is the only, and most effective, solution to this kind of problem... and it is a permanent solution, which in the long term is most effective.
