How to use an ability not slotted?

Hi, all! Quick question: I have chosen abilities (let's use Summon Unstable Familiar as an example) that I want to trigger/cast/whatever WITHOUT taking up a slot. How can I trigger one-time use of an already chosen ability (like Summon Unstable Familiar) without slotting it? Thanks!

Pretty sure you can’t do that.

You can't, and furthermore, when it comes to abilities like your example, if you remove the ability from your bar or swap to a bar without said ability, your summon goes away.

    What they said.

Prett sure if someone figured out how to and used it that it would be against the ToS.

What everyone else said. The closest you're likely to get is use a proc set that summons something (Mad Tinkerer), but that'll be a one shot fire and forget that you don't control.

How to use an ability I haven't slotted?

I slot it. Then I use it.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

You have to slot an ability in order to use it. That includes summons; in order to summon the creature, you have to slot the ability used to summon them. And you have to keep it slotted. It's the price to pay to have friendly battle pets.

Well that's unfortunate. Thanks for the replies, folks!

Actually, at least on the PC there is a possibility out of combat:
The addon "Bandits Gear Manager" offers the possibility to set one skill on a single button, enabling it's use for just one cast.
For example, I have put my Vampire "Hypnosis" on it so that I can convince traders to deal with me, even at higher levels of vanpirism. One cast - and the old skill gets put in the action bar again. o:)
It works with "Summon Shade", too. The shadow will appear and stay for the 20 second duration.
But beware - what Lion Heart (#3) said would still apply for summons that remain active just if the skill is slotted.

Glad if this still helps your purpose, too.

I just learn the very few class skills I know I will be using along with weapon skills, and whatever guild skills needed for a particular alt/build, most skills are not used, it's just an illusion of variety and choice
