Weren't companions supposed to stop standing on loot and such?

I thought things were supposed to change so companions would stop standing on things we could interact with (loot, harvest noods, quest givers, etc.)?

Why am I not seeing this now?

No, they just take less priorities over other objects so if they're standing on top if a node and you position your cursor between the two then the node takes higher priority to interact. They did tweak priorities in a recent update to be less wide so quest objectives close together wouldn't overlap, I noticed it also at some wayshrines that used to block containers preventing them from being looted can now be interacted again. Companion range of interaction may have been affected as well.

They tend to stay behind you, but if you move around a lot and turn around a lot they will inevitably get in the way.

Not mine, they are complete idiots. Mirri blocks all wayshrines while I find talking to Bastian instead of looting all the times. Not to mention that there is always one torchbug circling around the wayshrines when I travel with Mirri...

That has not been my recent experience. They still block many actions I want to take right in front of my, often by standing on the target.

Not much moving around, but they still usually jump in front of me.

Got to have something to lower her rapport while you carry out normal actions! She is a whiny baby who knows nothing about alchemy.
