There is a logical reason for it.
Sometimes things have to be nerfed to bring them in line with other things (like suddenly adding a timer to the leads that did not have one since the release of the skill wiping our codexes in the process) even if the thing nerfed didn't necessarily need a nerf, but other times is perfectly fine to have unexplained difficulty spikes.
It is called 'consistency' and ZOS devs are all up for it you see?

Not sure if you are sarcastic or serious, but one of us is missing the point.
Coalescence is the only added skill I ever use. If I was in need of skill points I'd take them out of the other abilities.
I'd never grind for antiquities but if I happen to get one that's cool. I've gotten really nice furnishings and that makes me happy. (Starts to lose its lustre when you get them over and over again though...)

The only one that's absolutely required is Heavy Shovel 1, because you don't have the time to clear that many spaces even if you choose perfectly. Augur 2 is not required, but it is helpful if you actually want to get it on the first try rather than hope you guess right. The others are nice if you want to get the extra treasures, but they're not at all required for any antiquities. None of the scrying ones are required besides Antiquarian Insight, though you won't get a perfect scry at purple or above without them. It's not hard to get 3 even on gold so you're trading skill points for time running around to empty dig sites. Which is generally a trade worth doing, but it's not necessary. It was done so you wouldn't get bored as it assumes you put the skill points in, which I might add are absolutely required to actually dig up the max level stuff..
