Anyone else having issues logging in with STEAM?

I tried unlinking my steam account and going in through the exe directly which used to work for issues like this. However, even though I'm putting in my correct account name in password it keeps saying I need to log in through steam.

Of course, now it won't let me re-link the account to steam : /

I’ve only been playing 6 months and regret I purchased through steam. I think you can rebuy the game from Zos and then unlink your account from steam. But I don’t want to lose anything on my account and I would be afraid to rely on support to fix any issues. They might be able to do it but I doubt it would be done in a timely manner. Does anybody know if there is a guide or documentation on how to rebuy, unlink keeping your account intact?

Steam owes me about 100,000 gold, since I'm not gonna be able to finish my double gold crafting writs tonight.

For aid in the issue to remember this isn't Zos' fault directly, Steam crashed earlier tonight and are the reason for this. Zenimax is at least looking to get the issue resolved through Valve as they're the ones to blame for it. I understand the frustration as it's been a while since it was this bad but unfortunately, that's it.

My guild was in the middle of an emp push for two people who've never had it before. We were all about to log in for our big raid night to make the final push and none of us could get in.

For once this is not completely ZOS' fault, but I'm still unbelievably ticked about this because of the time and effort all of us put into it is being wasted because of an issue that should've been fixed long ago.

I quit the game a while back because of all the stability issues and multiple, if not dozens of failed attempts to fix them. The game was plagued with severe problems with logins, grouping, lag, and a myriad of other things that you'd expect from a game in beta...not one in its 5th year.

So I resubbed this week and already a login issue. Has anything improved or are the same issues still nagging? I probably should have asked this before resubbing!

honestly it hasn't happened too often recently.

Well, guess one day of free DLC just ran out. Now I have to purchase it or skip dialog just to play it within 5 days. Currently playing Murkmire.

I was logged in when this issue happened, so was fortunate to be playing. But then in the middle of Volenfell, I crashed and was unable to complete the dungeon. Fortunately, the group was able to find a new tank, but COME ON.

I would love to be able to de-link my account from Steam, but the process seems a bit wonky and might be a bit too complex for my level of technical skills. If there is a way, please let me know.

@krachall -- Actually, this is almost year seven (in April) if you can believe it. But, you're spot on. The dungeon finder still has major issues, they've just gotten a little bit better at hiding it. Example: they finally realized the dungeon finder was riddled with client-server response issues due to people changing zones during a role call so... their solution... kick people out of queue if you get called while changing zones. Like that's going to make customers happy when they've been waiting 45 minutes in queue for a specific dungeon as a DPS.

In cringe every time there is a new update: the other major issue is always getting people disconnecting in trials due to "crash to desktop" or being kicked from the server.

I've been really hoping Microsoft's acquisition of Zenimax would force better development habits: ones that stop trading short term revenue gains (e.g. new features) for long term stability (fix the underlying services and client causing the issues).

I feel bad for the content team, they're pretty creative and to have your game design vision sabotaged by bad infrastructure design is probably a bit heart breaking. It's the key reason why I don't stay a subscriber and why I cancelled my subscription a few years ago.

ESO has the potential to dominate the MMO market, especially with more attention swinging back to MMO's. But most of my real life friends have tried ESO and dumped it because they have less patience for the issues.

The Thanos snap by Steam, the half population from Steam wiped out in an instance (or sent to Oblivion).

Waiting for the Endgame where all of us reappear in Tamriel and an epic daedric prince (Mehrunes Dagon?) boss fight awaits the entire community.

This could be a new yearly remembrance event!

The two bolded quotes are pretty much the story of ESO in a nutshell. I pray that someone, be it ZOS or Microsoft makes the changes necessary to stabilize the game. The short-sightedness of the current dev strategy is mind-boggling. A quality product will bring and keep loyal customers.

In 2018, these kinds of problems were quite common. So I bought a copy of the base game from the ZOS site directly.
My account is still linked to Steam, and I can login (well not at the moment, but usually).
But I can also login with the client directly even if Steam is not functioning, I just have to enter the account name and password.

Try it again right now. You might need to exit and restart Steam first, maybe even your computer. But a few minutes ago I was not able to log in, then it acted like Steam servers were unavailable (as in, being rebooted, maybe), then I was able to get in-- but I rebooted my computer first due to brief loss of WiFi that happened when Steam's servers were briefly unreachable.

From what I was reading on Steam's ESO community forum, the issue was something to do with Steam's multiplayer game servers, so it was affecting all multiplayer online games played through Steam, not just ESO. But it's fixed now.

I logged on through steam this morning, about 7:30am BST, and all was fine. Never had a problem with steam tbh. Has something gone wrong since then?

Then again maybe not. I don't know if it was wide spread but while you couldn't get into ESO I couldn't get into New World. Steam was having an issue.

The problem seems to have been from sometime after 7 PM EDT to sometime before 11 PM EDT last night.

It seems like a lot of people say that Steam has problems like this "all the time," but that hasn't been my experience. I've been playing ESO through Steam for a little over 4 years now, and there were only 3 times that I couldn't log in to ESO because of a problem on Steam's end.

There was a 4th time that a lot of people were having problems logging in, and there were people saying that it was a Steam issue, yet some of the people who couldn't log in were not using Steam to launch the game and hadn't purchased it through Steam, so I fail to see how that time could have been a Steam issue. If I remember correctly, it turned out to be a problem that was affecting a number of different online services, not just ESO and Steam, due to an ISP that was having issues.

Anyway, imagine that you've gotten 3 speeding tickets during the span of 4+ years, and then you encounter a traffic stop where the highway patrol are stopping every single vehicle so they can check everyone's driver's license, vehicle tags, look for any outstanding fines, etc. They look at your license, punch it into their computer, and then go, "Woah! It looks like you speed all the time!" I'm pretty sure your reaction would be something like, "What are you talking about, 'all the time'? I've gotten only 3 speeding tickets in a little over 4 years! How is an average of 1 speeding ticket every 13 months 'all the time'? That's a gross exaggeration and a malicious mischaracterization!"

But still people say that Steam has these occasional issues "all the time." Whatever.

Nor mine. I've been playing since 2016 and can only vaguely remember one other instance of not being able to log in. I'm sure it didn't last more than a day.

It's a pretty good track record for something of this nature.
