Is there currently an issue with the mail system?

This morning I was opening a backlog of hirelings mails. Suddenly I got a spamming warning for sending too many mails, and was dropped from the server. I was not sending any mails at all, just opening ones that were already in my mailbox. Granted there were a lot, but isn't that why there's a cap of about 70ish mails you can receive at a time to your box? I've hit the limit plenty of times, especially with XP buff events, using my alts that I don't play that much, to just do crafting writs like right now, so the hireling mails pile up pretty quickly. I've opened the entire backlog of 70+ mails without issue before. However, what was even more strange today, was that after I came back in, I finished retrieving the attachments, but I was not able to delete about a dozen of the mails afterward, not even a few other non-hireling mails. Latency maybe?

I think the server just needs time to catch up. I've not had this with mail, but have been dropped a couple of times when learning a lot of Alchemy formulas in a short time. I also notice that after I turn in my 7 daily writ quests I keep getting notices about completing them and what loot they gave me for a minute or so after I've left the area.

Are you using any addons? Besides mail specific addons, lazywritcrafter now has a hireling mail cleaner enabled by default. Some of those may be going too fast, or interfering with each other, or your action may be mixing with them in weird ways.

Did it actually say it was for sending too many mails, or was it something about "messages"? As I understand it, sending too many messages refers to the data packets your client sends to the server, not mail messages.

It's fairly common on console whenever we do anything at all repetitive too quickly - collecting mails, learning Alchemy or Enchanting traits, opening event boxes. The time it always gets me is handing in master writs. It's caused by lag.

99% of the time it's this. And it's usually like "but I didn't send any messages". Well...
    That annoying dude on PC-EU.

It did specifically say it was dropping me from the server, and it specifically referenced spamming and sending messages, it said nothing about data packets. Had I just been dropped without warning, I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but because it gave me such a specific message, and one that I'd never seen in 5 years of playing even during the busiest of events, I was really taken aback. I don't use any mail-specific addons, but I do use at least the lazy writ crafter addon. I tried turning that option off, and they were still being auto-opened, and failing to delete. So there must be another addon that has that function as well, but I'm not sure which it may be. Anyway, I just went back in, and allowed small batches at a time to open up and pull the attachments, and I'd interrupt it so it didn't do all of them at one time, just so I could at least clear them. But for at least a little while afterward, I still couldn't delete any of the mails. I just went in today, and all of the hireling mails were now gone and I was again able to manually delete other mails as well now. So just a temporary thing for me. Thanks for the responses, everyone.

If you're on Xbox, the mail is not pinging at all after the maintenance the other day. You will receive no other type of notification, either. However, if you manually go into your mail, your mail will be there.

If you're on any other system, dunno tbh. Mail has always been lacking in this game, one way or another. Like having to change zones.

    ...Like having to change zones.

This at least should be fixed next update, from PTS patch notes:

"Guild vendor related system mails are now nearly instant."
