Why did I pay full price for blackwood when 4 months later it's half price?

Im seriously fuming mad at this. Im paying a permanent subscription, have done so for years. Most of the time i buy the limited edition expansions too and I just bought sweetwater cascades fully furnished. Im not rich, i have to save for these things.

I feel ripped off that the expansion is sold cheaper only a few months later...if i had known prior i would not have bought blackwood back in june.

I just feel hurt because i support this game a lot and yes its my choice to do it but its getting to the point where im seriously feeling like im being shafted here. Im very upset when i should be excited what with the gorgeous house and community event. Why treat long term customers this way. I have been ao loyal to this company.
These decisions to hype up the mystery gift and then let us eso plus members down like this is pushing me to consider quitting this game.

It's not even aboug the money anymore its about fairness and consideration.

I know not everyone feels this way and i respect it if you disagree with me but i just had to get this off my chest.😢😢😢😢😢😢

this is normal - almost all games are discounted within months - if you want the lower price just wait - if you want it NOW accept it'll be cheaper in a short time!

This has been a way to promote the game every year since Summerset though. It's normal for games to go on discount after they aren't brand new anymore. And they have used this to bring the community together to do a big hurrah for the chapter for years at this point.

I don't see how it's unfair at all to have discounts on old items, or how you've missed this for the past like 3 years...

I knew they would, they always do, but I honestly wanted the pre-order items as well + patience is for the immortal...

But now you know for next time and will be able to make your choice, so sucks to feel ripped off..

But if its any consolation I ended up first buying basic pre-order (cause that was all I could afford at the time).. and then later upgrading to collectors because I reallyreally wanted the armorstyle. .. Smarted a bit, but I blame myself...

Good to vent, absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I personally don't see any issue at all, I payed full price for blackwood knowing it would eventually be cheaper, or if I wanted to wait, free. I mean, if you want it 'now' you tend to pay the price. If you didn't buy it then the price went UP I would understand that would be extremely annoying

if you check the steamcharts, you will see that the amount of players rises just for 1 month, then declines again.

Offering it for sale shortly after, helps to reduce this decline. So this strategy has been used every year, nothing new.

You even could wait for a whole year and play it completely for free, if you subscribe to ESO+.

What you would miss though buying late:

No bonus items like the welva mount from the pre-purchase or the deadlands gladiator outfit.
    No fun NOW.
Making gold from items as long as they are new and rare. Like Ivory brigade clasp, Black fin motifs. Furnishing plans sold for several 100k, up to 1 mio. Now they are down to 20k already.

For me, these points justified the pre-purchase. If they don't justify it for you, you should wait next time.

I knew it will be at least 50% off during september-october event (all recent chapters were), so buying it early was a decision I made knowing that.

I've sold chapter stuff that I don't need/duplicates for many millions totals and been using all four chapter mythics (yes, even shapeshifter) all this time, so no regrets.

There is a pattern here for last couple years - special chapter event in early autumn with chapter sale. You feel ripped off because you didn't check how it's usually works. Sales and promotions don't hurt anyone, especially when they are so easily to predict. I paid full price too and for me it's ok, because I had fun with Blackwood since 4 months now, without waiting for sales.

If it's hard for you to get money for things then you should do "your homework" and check things first before you will buy anything. I don't have too much cash either, so I buy crowns only on sales planning this for months, because I checked when they usually do this. I follow twitch drops for free gems to have some nice stuff for free, etc. I just do everything to minimize potential lose.

If for you there is no problem with waiting 4 months for chapter, there is a good news for you - now you learned about it and you can wait in next years, because this will happen again for 99%. So you will use it next year or just you will protest that there shouldn't be any sale ever? :D

People preorder chapters for the digital shiny things, it's not so much about losing money when you do it that way and it goes on sale and gets given away, because you paid for your preorder exclusives. Never buy chapters unless you preorder for the goodies.

I bought the base game at full price - €60. Couple of months later the price was cut permanently.

I've bought every chapter since Summerset or Morrowind (whichever was first) at full price.

Been paying the sub since 2015.

These are all choices I've made. I've yet to get much past Orsinium (I'm a rubbish player).. This event is the first time I've played any of the expansions I've paid for, beyond small bits.

I don't feel I've wasted my money. I have the content available whenever I want to access it.. I can drop the sub when i'm not playing.

Sure.. I knew I could have waited to get discounts... but I didn't want to wait. Even when I wasn't playing, I still didn't want to wait.

If you want to play the content immediately, you'll pay full price. If you want the "order early" bells and whistles, you'll pay full price. If you can wait a few weeks, or months, you'll pay a lot less.

Some people were rather perturbed to find that, after they paid full price for Morrowind, a year later when Summerset came out Morrowind was now DLC. Some people complained they paid full price for Summerset, when a year later Elsweyr was released, and Summerset was now DLC. I consider paying for the chapters pre-order or at release because I get to play for a full year before the content goes to DLC, I've had my sub since early release when it was required. This game is still the cheapest hobby I've ever picked up considering the amount of time I play.

It's a lot like going to a movie on opening night and paying full price, plus spending a lot for over-priced concessions, then the bargain theatres are showing the movie some months later and the concessions are slightly cheaper. If you want to see the movie when it first comes out, you must pay a lot more for the experience than if you're willing to wait until it comes to the bargain theatres. And if you wait longer, you get to see it for "free" on TV-- initially on subscription movie channels, and later on broadcast TV.

So you just have to decide how much you want to play the new chapter's content. You can pay full price if you want to play it as soon as it's released, or pay a bit less when it goes on sale if you don't mind waiting several months, or wait until you can access it "for free" via an ESO Plus subscription if you don't mind waiting a year to play it.

I only bought this expansion after it was on discount, for the first time ever. I had always prepuchased the previous expansions. I also was a bit amazed that it went on discount so fast and they made an event on it.

My guess is that i was not the only one of long-time customers not buying it full price and they were forced to put it on sale and push marketing with the event.

I can't say why you did it but I pre-ordered Blackwood because I wanted the items that came with it (especially the mount). But then I also found a reputable 3rd party site selling it slightly cheaper, which brought it down to a price I thought was reasonable for the content (having checked it out on the PTS) and the items I wanted. If I hadn't been able to find it for a reasonable price I'd have waited for Blackwood to be on sale before buying it, which I knew would happen sooner or later because it always does.

I'm not sure how you've missed it before but the chapters have always been discounted a few months after release. Also roughly a year after release (when the next chapter is released) they're re-branded DLC meaning they're included with ESO+ and available on the crown store, offering another oppertunity to get them at a discount by buying crowns during a sale.

It's always worth remembering that you're not required to buy anything else just because you're playing ESO, you're certainly not required to buy everything. If you think a particular purchase isn't worth the money then don't get it. If you want it but think it's too expensive for what it is then look for other options, just like you would when buying anything else.

They did it for Morrowind too, but that was just a sale, it wasn't linked to an in-game event.

It has always been the case, promos happen pretty soon. Remember after a year it becomes "free" within the ESO+ sub, so why pay at all? The answer is: you paid the full price for that 4 months, where you could play with the chapter earlier then those who just bought it. Maybe not fair but definitely not unexpected.

Btw, I've bought the chapter a month ago and managed to make a few million golds before the this event, where motif and furnishing plan prices plummeted. Just to mention one tangible advantage...

When I decided not to pre-purchase in protest against the poor execution of the companion system, I did some research:

Sale cycle of a new chapter, which usually launches June:
35% off during quakecon, usually August
50% of during community event, end September/October
67% off on Black Fredas and during New Life event

I normally like to pre-purchase early so that I can put the new crafting stations in the guild hall almost immediately.
Can't think that I've ever been attracted by the pre-purchase bonuses.
