Why are they all magicka?

✭✭If you have a stam character and know the trial is going to be ranged (vCR, vAS etc), why would you not have a ranged build for them? The only person forcing you to LA spam appears to be you. Stamplar, for example, is a highly popular dps choice, and whilst the do very well in melee, they can still do decent ranged damage in a bow/bow build.
Also, why are you dying to mechanics? You have access to self heals through the lines of circle of protection and vigor and a shield through the undaunted line.
I'm talking about playing character/build that has "highest dummy parse". Point is that dummy parse does not always translate well to reality.0 -
Karm1cOne✭✭✭✭✭I vet the feeling a lot of responses aren't from trials runners. Most every boss, with few exceptions, are stack and burn. Everyone, mag and stam, are in melee.
It's gear that separates how groups run. A lot of groups are stacked for mag dps, and unless stam moves farther ahead in dps with trials buffs, trials groups will stay mag heavy.
That said, it seems zos has this concept of pvp is for stam leaning and pve is mag leaning.0 -

Yes, there have been times when it is more viable to include stam, but the end game meta has virtually always been magic-based. Hell, you can see that from the design of the trial mechs!
It is one of the main things about this game that needs addressing, but hey, hasn’t for years so not holding my breath.
This last update was, in my opinion, utterly rubbish.
Look up what was before elsweyr/scalebreaker, but even then most comps were still stam exclusive (bar VCR and VAS, later one still had highest score with bow/bow) for half a year because habits. It's virtually same now, you can complete anything like GS or PB on stam, it's just not as optimal as on magicka now.
The last time Stam was best was pre-Summerset. When staves and 2handers became 2-pieces of a full set. Summerset made mag extremely powerful with 2 5-piece sets, maelstrom/asylum destro and a monster helm. Stam was later nerfed even further with dual wield restoring half of the resources it used to and nerfs to the damage ticks of the VMA Bow.
With the main trials being VCR and VASHM mag was in high demand due to damage shields, ranged attack, and with orbs the ability to hit more by doing less.1 -

Yup but that lasted until ZOS nerfed the colossus and put a timer on it which was 3 months. Mag necromancers we’re addressed and became more powerful. Lokke was also patched and mag was king of the land once more.0 -

This is just not true. Stam has always had better sets. Watch how quickly the sorrow / medusa sets are dumped next patch if mag can run tzogvin. Or kinra, or rele etc.
The problem, as you've pointed out, is the crit chance is just straight out higher on mag and there are so many crit damage % that the medium armour benefits just don't stack up. Which is literally the change ZoS are putting in this patch. Crit damage % will have a cap, which means crit% beyond a certain point has diminishing returns, which means you only want to reach a certain % of crit damage and crit chance, just like you currently do with pen.
Stam will be as viable as the many melee range mag builds like magDK and magPlar next patch, and you'll see a bunch of "bad stam sets" adopted by mag builds.1 -

And outside of bombers and DCon spammers, PVP is basically all stamina builds. And in PVE, the meta seems to be shifting to dagger/dagger for many magica builds.0 -

MudcrabAttack✭✭✭✭✭Highest dummy parses come from stamina builds that would rely on Alkosh to debuff bosses, but in spite of that people still choose magic builds for trials because so many magic sets can be used to buff groups.
Next patch the highest dummy parses will come from mages since ZOS handed over all the best stamina- based sets and created a crit multiplier ceiling, making medium armor redundant. Nothing about the meta would change since the divide is just growing wider in favor of mage groupsEdited by MudcrabAttack on October 1, 2021 10:41PM0
