It's probably not worth the effort if I'm honest.

I've seen far worse, even in guild chat's but if it truly offended you then go ahead. 🤔

Are angry words in group chat sufficient ground to get someone banned? You can always ignore him and banning would result in a lot of real losses...

you can use from your phone google translate from picture or google lens (in short: why other dps ressources are not shown
    - for clarity: especially if it was the healer asking, there is a lot to be upset for not seeing them)...

as for specific russian word it is used everywhere similarly to the english one mentioned at urban dictionary:

Not sure if serious, you also reporting every f word you see in any chats? That would mean banning entire pc na server at the very least.

If you don't understand what he wrote it's your personal issue, no one *needs* to actually speak the same language as you do.

damn... maybe you should try to play call of duty online or something like that, where if you don't get death threats it's considered boring. That'll give you some perspective about that "dirty word"

Seriously though, insult them in a language they don't understand, tell them to eff off, ignore them.
Just move on. It's not worth getting upset about.

Many russians use bad language on daily basis as normal language, not meaning offence. In this case they just said "No".

I think he was just kindly asking to speak english to understand the dialogue. And they answered with a bad speaking, it doesn't matter in which language.
This is not racism, it is the simple claim of being treated with kindness by strangers, to which he had made a simple and legitimate request.
I think he has to report this screenshot, ZOS does not tolerate rude behavior. The measures to be taken are obviously up to them (ZOS moderators).

Technically yes. Zenimax has said every case is looked at on its own and that even t-bagging could bring down the hammer, especially if the person was asked to stop.

Granted, I expect there is a lot of situational stuff required.
    [Quoted post has been removed.]

This is not really about what can be said on this street. Freedom of speech does not apply to private areas such as forums and the game. Granted, I expect there has to be more than just the use of a dirty word for Zenimax to do something.

If you feel this qualifies as harassment or otherwise violates the terms of service then you're within your rights to report the player.

I would not expect any action in this case, but the action (if and when taken by Zeni) are not shared with the reporting players anyway.

    Greetings all,

After removing a handful of comments, we would like to remind everyone that all posts should be kept civil, constructive, and within the Community Guidelines. Flaming and Baiting are both violations of those guidelines, and are stated as follows:
    • Flaming: It’s okay to disagree and debate on the official ESO forums, but we do ask that you keep all disagreements civil, constructive, and on-topic. If a discussion gets heated and turns into a debate, remember that you should stick to debating the post and/or thread topic. It is never appropriate to resort to personal comments or jabs about those participating in the thread discussion.
    • Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
If there may be any questions in regards to the rules, please take a few moments to review them here.

    Thank you for your uderstanding,

You can report people for literally anything. I mean it, you don't need to ask if you should/shouldn't do it; If you think someone did something wrong, report them. Nothing (should) happen simply because they've been reported.
It's up to the ZOS team to decide if it's in violation of their rules or not.

What if they didn't speak English? I'm on the EU server and I'm used to hear people speaking in different languages - in groups we try to make us understand in English, but by no means I'd expect someone to speak it.

The only time I truly felt bothered was during one BG, a groupmate kept spitting out blasphemy but since it was over voice, I thought the best course of action would have been blocking (but I didn't). I must admit being quite happy to kill them (by chance) in Cyrodiil... There's a player rocking blasphemy in their user name, if I meet them again that I'll deffo screenshot and report.

the insult actually was to ask him to speak english. This is a discrminating request, because this game is open for players from all over the world. Kyrillic is even explicitly supported as font set.

On EU, this usually would be no issue, as we see french, german, russian and other languages frequently. (Although myself I prefer to write in english instead of german).

On NA, it is less common, apart from some spanish (Mexico) or french (Canada) now and then.
Still, this does not justify to discriminate against other players by denying them the right to use their native language.

you can see on the screenshot, that 2 persons talk russian. So yes, it IS discriminating to request to talk a different language. It obviously was not relevant for the rest of the group, what they talked about.
You could have talked russian, if you prefer one common language, right? (just kidding, but I think this different perspective shows the problem: why is english of "higher" value than russian? Just because you lack the ability to talk 2 languages?).

I assume this was a random dungeon and you got a group with 2 Russians.
They didn't talk to you, so why demand they speak English?
Just ignore and carry on with the dungeon.

I know a Russian family and they use that word to express even the slightest frustration. It can be as bad as its translation or as mild as just saying "damn".

That's pretty correct, also excessive use of brackets is a common way of expressing emotions like disappointment or any happy states/excitement depending on what side they're facing, this example is kind of a joking reply without any sign of being rude. It's just a difference in ways of communication.

A lot of russian speaking players are also simply do not know english well enough to communicate, especially if they're from countries that have their own official languages besides ru (example Ukrainian).

In this forum the only language admitted is English. I have reported a post written in another language. The official language of this game is English, so everyone is supposed to understand English language. If you go for a random dungeon with two people speaking another language, you cannot understand neither if they are speaking to you or not, if they are speaking about you or not, if they are fine or angry, etc... So it's really very rude to speak an incomprehensible language (also with cyrillic characters) in presence of other two persons... BTW my native language is not English, and I try every day to translate everything into English.

Some people just swear, that is not a reason to ban someone. The word he used is a swear word used as exclamation, or comma. Same as "f***" in english.
He said something like "f*** no :)". Its not a harrasment, he didnt call you the thing the word literally means, the same as saying "f***" doesnt mean the person is reffering to sex.

Good that you are so knowledgeable about the meaning of swear words in Russian. But not everyone is able to understand its meaning. It is deeply wrong to write bad words in one's own language in the presence of foreigners. How can you not understand? But where do you think education lives?

If they couldn't speak English, they could talk to each other privately (whispering). Or simply answering "Sorry no, I can't speak English at all". That's a fine answer. Not "No, f..... o... " That's really rude, dear one.

As a native English speaker I find it highly offensive that my language be pushed onto others that do not speak it. Why should native Russian speakers be considered rude for speaking - or typing - in Russian????? C'mon, get real. They have as much right to ask us to speak Russian as we do to ask them to speak English.

Thanks for all answers, even those against me.
I'm here to read everyone's opinions and confront with every perspective.

I just want to clarify, this is very important.

Someone told me that I am intolerant (his post has been removed by ZOS) and this is not true.

We were in a group and I can ask to speak English without receive a bad word as reply.

The Russian language is not the issue, as any other language.

I asked here if it is right to receive a bad word because I asked to speak English and I understand that instead of reporting the player, I can just ignore him, as many of you have suggested me.

OK, but instead of answering me with a "f***", he could have ignored my question.

It happened to me to write in my native language (not English btw) in group and I was asked by some pugs to write in English and I did it quietly and I never allowed myself to offend anyone for this legitimate request.

Or they could use any chat they want to communicate with alternatively, which they did. It's also considered rude to shoehorn someone into boxes suiting your personal preferences. People are different so their cultures and manners of speech, it's not universal.

If you want exclusively english chat you can always disable all the channels but /enzone and stop running with random people that might use some language that seemed offensive to you for any reason.
