Secret Quests? (Easter Eggs or ...) PC - N/A

Hello, good day. So I'm getting around to posting about this now, and

Yeah, I'm sorry. I am weirdly posting a lot these days. I don't think I have a lot of time on my hands, I still work for a living, but is that living, or slavery?
I was just wondering, this is the third time this happened to me. I'm randomly traveling through an already completed Zone, well according to the new in-game Zone Guide , and I just happen to cross paths with an NPC with quest icon over their heads. I speak with them and complete some kind of mission or task for them that doesn't show up in the zone guide.

What can you tell me about this. Are we getting easter eggs? Or did you throw in additional quests just for fun, is the zone guide broken[snip]

But fursur, can you shed a little light on the subject? Like I said, it happened to me 3 times already, tonight was the 3rd that I can remember.
Example : Dearly Departed.

There is many side quest, which are not included in the zone guide. The zone guide only shows the main quest line.

As was stated above me, there are loads of side quests in most areas. I've picked up the achievement for one thousand quests on multiple toons. Those shorter side quests come in handy, especially when going for each zone quest achievement while using psijiic potions. Keep exploring and Happy Questing!

I have found that a lot, too. I would be out digging up maps or gathering surveys in a zone that the map shows all completed and find a quest giver. Being a completionist, I installed an addon that shows me every quest in every zone and checks them off as they are completed.

I was surprised by how many side quests I had missed, so I went around and did them all. There were so many it took a few days for each of my characters. Not surprisingly a lot of the missed quests were the same out of the way ones.

The zone guide does show "side quests" which are related to the various locations in the zone, but which don't fall under the zone's main questline. It doesn't actually show the names of those quests, but it won't show those locations as having been "completed" until you complete the quests associated with them.

But yeah, it doesn't show the little side quests that aren't part of either the zone's main questline or the location side quests. It can be easy to miss some of those quests the first time you go through a zone, then discover them when you return to the zone at a later time. It would be nice if there were a checklist for them, so you can see which ones you haven't done yet.

There is an addon that does just that. I forget it's name but it's something like Quest Journal. I will check and update this when I get back home.

Tip for those who like experiencing every bit of story you can: do all the side quests before completing the zone questline of each zone. Many sidequest characters you help along the way, by completing their quests, will show up at the end-of-zone questline celebration. This applies to DLC/Chapter zones as well as base zones. Oh, and don't leave the area where these sidequest NPC's are at the end until you've talked to them all you want. They'll usually be gone when you leave and come back. I like to consult uesp.net for a list of all the quests connected to a zone before I finish the main storyline. I don't get all of them all the time because I avoid group content, but I still get to see a fair bit of follow-up from characters I've met along the way.

Way cool, thanks folks, yes I just found it a bit surprising, and refreshing thinking I've completed the entire zone only to run across a new quest/task just simply per chance randomly getting those treasure maps earned from daily mats making, but then I also decide along the way to pick up every node between wayshrine and X on the map. Strange though, I do try to consult the Journal tab.

Exactly how I do it. In addition to the above it means when new zones arrive exploration is much more rewarding, and you know you have the main questline to enjoy right at the end. sitting at 2135 quests complete just now in achieve log (done more than that) :)

I don't think the end-of-questline celebration for the base-game zones is until you complete the fifth zone's questline?

I think I must have missed a few side quests in Blackwood, because when I attended the end-of-questline celebration there were a few NPCs at the party who were identified as some generic term, rather than by their names, and I wasn't able to talk with them at the party. :(

Another quest-related tip for those who like to really complete the story in the quest: hang around a bit after the quest completion message is displayed, because more often than not there is some wrap-up dialogue (sometimes quite amusing) to listen to.

That said, there are "hidden" quests as well. There is one in Blackwood that relies on you investigating a small camp site and reading a note that is left there.

That is good advice! I first noticed this with Elsweyr. I can't remember if previous expansions worked this way.

The Dearly Departed quest is the final quest in a really short quest line. You must have done the first bit then got sidetracked?

Rivenspire gets one for sure, and I think some people showed up at the end of Alik'r too. But the end-of-arc party has definitely been more of a staple of chapters and DLCs.

There are usually some generic NPCs scattered around along with the named folks, even if all of the sidequests are done. So you're probably good.

There's a bizarre 'secret' quest in Stonefalls. Just up the hill a little from the entrance to Soft Loam Cavern delve there's a merchant by a campfire. He sells a religious fetish statue that you use to start a quest.

It's a small quest, but a strange one.

Oh, that's right-- I forgot about the gathering in the Alik'r Desert. I don't remember the one in Rivenspire, but I think I remember one for Glenumbra, or maybe it's Stormhaven (or both).

I hope I didn't miss anything in Blackwood, although I haven't done a comprehensive sweep through the zone to see. I do know that I haven't done the "Precious" quest yet, and there are other things yet to be completed, such as the squirrel thing and the tapestry or whatever it is.

Those are just side quests. The Zone Guide only shows the main quests of the zone: you'd need an addon to have all quests displayed. That doesn't mean there are no easter eggs throughout the game. There are a lot of em, but they're usually hidden in alcoves, off the beaten path, or hidden in subtext like with names of NPC's, locations, or within letters or books you find in-game. Just the other day I found an inn in Blackwood. It's marked on the map with the curiosity icon. It's a place full of animals all with silly names, and one is an easter egg being a cat in the stable named "fire-paw," a reference to a young adult (ages 9-15) book series about feral cats. You find tons of these little nods throughout the game.
