Master writs

Can we have some kind of telltale on these so we know if we can do them or not? Maybe make the trait and or motif red if not learned yet. There are far too many motifs now to go scrolling through them all at a crafting table to see if we know them or not.

And that scrolling needs looking at too. They could do to be in a list or in alphabetical order at least.

If you have completed the Mages Guild quest line, you can find out faster by looking in your Lore Library. It's under the Journal Section of the menu. The crafting motifs are the first books listed and are in alphabetical order. Not the best solution, but easier than going through crafting tables.

Thanks. I didn't know that. That's very helpful.

Also, try to learn motifs in batches, so for example you will know that Ashlanders you have completed so it is save to take it but you are still missing Fang Lair so it is better not to activate this writ.

And one more thing - try to learn those few craftable sets from Cyrodiil or you gonna need to take the whole city to complete the writ. I am talking from my own experience ^^

Craftsore Blackwood addon has a great section on motives. I use it for tracking motif, traits, research in progress. Has a nice provisioning and enchanting UI and gives alerts when character (including alts) are done with a research or horse training.

I don't use add-ons. All it really needs is something like the daily provisioning writs where if you don't know the recipe it shows in red.

I'm not so bothered about the trait as my main has them all researched but it would be nice if they could do this with motifs.

Saying that, knowing about the journal should make it much easier.

If you are on PC, you should use add-ons. You will enjoy game more. Start by getting Writworthy add-on to address your immediate concern. There's an add-on manager called Minion that you should get.

The difference is that with provisioning you have to take the quest and use the cook site to see the red missing recipe. With master writs you want to see if you can do it before activating the quest.

Otherwise you’d fill up you quest log with master writs. Anandon them and they’re gone.

@pdblake If you're on PC, Writ Worthy add-on helps you by adding to the master's writ tool-tip the following:
    - red warnings when writ requires a motif/trait/recipe that the current character does not yet know.
    - orange warnings for missing skills, that are not required but which reduce the cost of expensive writs, such as Resin Expertise.

Some of us embrace addons; others (like pdblake and Tandor) never use them. I would guess pdblake knows about WritWorthy et al, but would rather have the QOL setup added to the game UI itself. Which would also be very nice for those on console, after all.

That is precisely what I mean yes.

I agree completely. Add-ons should not be needed for something this basic.

I would totally agree with the sentiment, but not using an addon, doesn't lead to the functionality getting added faster.

Yes, that's no doubt very true. We've seen them add to the UI things that were previously available only as addons, but it seems to have been years, very slow.
