Your ideas how to improve the companions

I got a change... Holding the Pet Command Key and then pressing interact will call the companion to you and open the interact menu. That way just pressing the interact key on its own will not talk to them by accident.

    • Speed up rapport gains and decreases
    • Any time our companion is standing next to an interactable item or NPC, show the item or NPC prompt first
    • Add future quest content for previously released companions
    • Let us access the companion menu on our 'houseguest' version
    • Allow the 'houseguest' version to wear costumes and/or outfits
    • Give the 'houseguest' version the ability to sit in chairs and sleep in beds (while holding completely still)
    • Add romance to the companion system with dialogue options available to our 'houseguest' version

Point and command to make companion stand on pressure plate, pull lever and do any other interactions.
    Setting to not aggro things.
Improve AI to not stand in red.
Improve AI to avoid pulling foes from AOE.
Each companion should have inventory to carry their own junk at least.

Also in my opinion, no companion should be larger than a banekin and preferably smaller.

    Their own equipment backpack.
    Or at least a presets.

So if I level up a companion, they get 3 presets (tank, healer dps) and they can carry 3x the gear that way with skill configuration.

Improved AI. Allow them to 'learn'.

If they stand on/in the way of stupid and die after 'x' amount of deaths they have 'learned' to recognise stupid and walk/roll out of it.

If they have attacked a boss during a phase of stupid and died to stupid they learn and they stop attacking a boss during the phase of stupid.

If they reset a boss by dragging it outside its 'leash' radius they learn the radius and no longer cause a reset.

    So on and so forth.

    1) allow them to act like a banker and carry their own gear. Say 30 slots, but ONLY companion gear. That way, at least you can adjust them as needed for multiple toons without lugging the gear to and from your banker
    2) for the love of God LET US MAKE THEIR GEAR. I'm a master crafter but I can't make Mirri a pair of shoes?? Are you KIDDING me? Similarly, let us upgrade, learn the traits and transmute, etc.
    3) Option to hide everyone else's companion. I don't need to see 50 Bastions running around Alinor
    4) The entire rapport system needs an overhaul. Bad idea poorly implemented. Get rid of it if you can't make it sensible.
    5) Their dialog needs an overhaul too.
Those are the biggest pain points, imho.

    1) More cosmetic options and preferably the ability to build them from scratch in character creation. The clone issue needs to be resolved- not because it is immersion breaking, my immersion was broken long ago- but because it is just uninteresting, it turns companions into a visual tinnitus you desperately try to tune out, rather than something that would add creativity and variety to the world.

    2) Stop the companion standing on everything I am trying to interact with. In fact just provide a companion menu on the UI rather than the current interact function.

    3) I think this has been mentioned but companions need stance options; aggressive (as now)/ protective (only attacks mobs engaged with player)/ passive (no attacks) at least.

That's about it. I am prepared to accept companions as a bit of fluff with limited utility- but they haven't even reached that low bar yet.

I agree with others in this: The most annoying thing for me is the interaction with them and with any other quest companion in the game. Please add an option to turn it off.
And please add a way to change the controls for making them attack or calling them back. Because digipad left is a ridiculous key for weapon switch, I have swapped buttons in the PS5 settings. So L3+R3 is really awkward to press now. Xd

The thing what irritates me the most about them is that they are standing in the way whenever I want to loot something,go out of a door or even use a wayshrine.
This is something I would want to see changed in the future so they are walking a bit more far away from the player itself.

What would you like to see changed about the companions in the future?

THIS!!! Why are they always standing on my [snip]?!?!?!?!?! SO damn annoying, just like everyone's pets that stand in the way!

Since companions are basically pets, it would be nice if we can turn some of our pets into companions that would help us in combat too.

I think they’ve been done rather well… and despite rapport moving slowly it does move and it was super satisfying when Bastion finally saw me as his close friend.

Also… he’s been in my way maybe twice…. I thought the distance he stood away from me was one of the things done really well!

Also, on PS at least you can limit his chatting if it gets on your thrupneys…

He does need to carry his own stuff tho… and have the option to wear a helmet/hat… maybe change hairstyles….

Love reading some of the suggestions ☺️

    Utility in general.

That means, first of all, that gear should be overhauled:

    1) Upgrading, transmuting, reconstruction, the whole lot. Give us an entire crafting line to sink our skill points into.
    2) Companions should automatically carry their own gear. It takes up way too much space.
    3) Redesigning armour passives. At the moment the passive benefits are meagre compared to the sheer armour stats of heavy.

At the moment, gear is an unrewarding, inconsistent, chore.

Secondly, functionality specifically in dungeons. Companions only make it easier for me to do content I could already do, but don't allow me to do content I couldn't. For example:

    4) Standing on pressure pads.
    5) Pulling levers.
    6) Being able to free me if I'm stun targetted by a boss.
    7) Being targetted by bosses for stuns, requiring me to free them.
    8) If I get pulled into a trap, the fight shouldn't automatically reset.

As an example of the last one, when fighting the Adjudicator in WGT, you can be put in a jail cell, and can escape if you have a lockpick. But not if you're trying to fight with just a companion, because of the automatic rest.

I'm all for a story mode. But I also want companions to contribute more than just (weak) dps in a dungeon. I'd rather have actual utility than dps, in fact.

I literally only want one thing... If a dungeon boss locks me down via a group mechanic and I try to break free, my companion will stop whatever it is doing to interrupt the boss/mechanic.

I want this to work even in a dungeon like wayrest II where someone needs to activate two shrines to save you.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

The main issue with companions is failed design. The Devs or Content leads failed to appreciate that RPGs even MMO RPGS where you create a character that can be a personal experience, as can the selection of companions.

So if your going to introduce companions to the game and have them succeed as desired content you either need to:

    1. make a huge number of them available to cater to all desired aesthetic choices or
    2. make them automatons with lots of configuration options in terms of aesthetics, personality, backstory etc

The current companion either gives us Naryu's less attractive sister or Darien's ugly less charismatic brother, neither are optimal for players.

I recognize the amount of work required in both options above, however if your going to do something, do it right.

Given we are stuck with the models implemented I believe ZOS need to:

    1. Remove the egotistical restriction on companion helms (those who want to can still use hide helm to show their faces, and TBH Bastian could use a helm as he looks like he has taken a significant number of blows to the face already).

    3. Give existing companions the ability to use personalities, skins, markings, hairstyles and polymorphs.

If this system is not going to wither on the vine.

    - Give them their own inventory. (For their Gear only)
    - Let them have helmets.
    - Allow me to put polymorphs on them. (Bastion would look much better as a skeleton on my necromancer.)
    - More ways to build rapport outside of the guild dailies.
    - Evil companions that like evil deeds. Rapport gain from stealing and killing.

-On that note, give an option to either silence their commentary outside specifically talking to them or greatly reduce how often they say things. Preferably both.
-Give them a companion inventory where they can carry their own gear (but only their gear, not any player gear or junk). I'm not sworn to carry their burdens (or shouldn't be) so they shouldn't be sworn to carry mine.
-Craftable companion gear. Basically either make new companion-specific gear sets or tweak existing craftable sets and give us a tab to create stuff for the companions. Even if it means having to research companion gear traits.
-Romance! But only if they're well written romances. IDK I'm a sucker for BioWare-esque romance options.
-One companion of each race would be nice. At the very least, have multiple with different morality. Having one that my murderous thief could run around with and actually approve of her dastardly deeds would be nice.

Make an expedition mechanic where you give them all your surveys and they collect it for you but isn't affected by the CP perks.
