[Poll] Would you like to see a new gear slot for capes/cloaks/backpacks etc.?

Since the introduction of Legendary items the game has moved away from the paradigm of functional Monster Sets (two-piece helm & shoulder sets from dungeons) with cool unique procs and effects. These effects have been steadily nerfed to the point of being largely irrelevant now, which is a real shame to my way of thinking as the variety of sets is really a lot of fun.

However, in order to wear a Legendary item you either have to sacrifice a 5-piece bonus (which is almost never worth it), or drop one of the head/shoulder pieces and use a single monster set item for the 1-piece bonus as a pure stat boost item with no special effects. I feel this takes away from all the work that went into making all those monster sets.

A simple and seemingly obvious solution, which would be in keeping with some of the most popular mods ever made for Skyrim, would be to add a new character slot, specifically for cloaks, capes, backpacks, or generally "back items."

The possibilities for what these items might look like are limitless, and it would add a whole other revenue stream for ZOS as they could get really creative with the sort of thing you could transmog this slot to: Camping gear, different lore-friendly cape and cloak options, fishing gear, standards/banners, really the only limit is the imagination of the devs and what would reasonably fit within the visual theme and esthetic of the Elder Scrolls.

An added slot would allow more options for legendaries in the future as well, as you could build 5 + 5 + 2 + Legendary builds with the benefit of two full 5-piece sets and both a monster and legendary set.

To avoid having to go back and make styles for back slots for every motif in the game, they could be treated like another jewelry slot for the purpose of crafting, with a generic default appearance for light/medium, and heavy, possibly with a cape/cloak or backpack option much like you can make a jerkin or robe for light armor.

However in terms of outfit station customization the slot would open up the option of anything back-related, allowing ZOS to add new customization options over time. You could unlock different visual styles through achievements, gold purchases from NPC vendors, and of course the Crown Store.

I'm interested to hear what people think of the idea. However, I ask that you please not post any generic "this would take too much dev resources" or "this would be OP" comments as these type of replies do not really contribute anything to the discussion.

It seems the game is not designed for the physics capes require. It would look silly for the capes to be stuck to our backs. The devs have also spoken fairly adamantly that they will not be adding capes to the game and these are devs that seem to bend to the will of the players on such things.

I also forgot to add that the gamer has enough performance problems that it does not need to have more to deal with.

I think rather than a specific slot (for capes or w/e), they just have a unique accessory slot where they can release extra mythic items to fit into it. That way it doesn't ruin the balance of the current setup since you can only equip certain items to this slot, and it would allow ZoS to add weird wacky things. Like a robot arm, or a backpack, or a peg leg. Wacky stuff that would have PVE and PVP uses, but not be bogged down to a specific area on your character.

I'd still like an extra ring slot for the Ring of Mara.
It really sucks having to unslot equipment for a small 10% XP boost. Keep in mind that both players already have to be grouped up and both have to wear the ring at the same time so we both miss out on a full set bonus...

Hard pass on it being added as an extra equipment slot.

But I know some of you can't get enough of those capes so I'm okay with it being added as a cosmetic option on the condition I can hide it.

You seem to be mixing up 2 different things: a seperate slot for mythic items and a cosmetic accessory.

A seperate mythic slot would be welcomed by many I think, but this would lead to more nerfing "balancing" of 5-piece sets, monster sets and/or mythics. Mythic items add so much and to use them you have to sacrifice something else which is right.

Cosmetic accessories? Meh. The game isn't made for cloaks and capes. Accept this and move on.

Sure if we're getting zero fps hit, not gonna happen though. All the backpacks, capes etc aren't really an elder scrolls thing even if community trying to pretend so, it's just a modded experience which is fine in it's own place but still alien to the unmodded game.

They could implement those for sure, but what's the point of it to make it justifiable? Only new cosmetics slot isn't cutting it, performance loss also a big factor here even after multithread option given.

And btw "this would take too much dev resources" is a valid argument, as it should contribute enough to the gameplay to be even considered before some other features game certainly needs, there's a long wait list already.

I played everquest 2, they had a back option but if you wore a cape the clipping was so bad at least you had to option of not seeing on yourself but other characters as well. backpacks were later added in and some of those actually gave extra inventory slots.

No additional slots that enable more set combinations especially alongside mythic item usage. What ZOS has done is help enforce the kiss/curse concept behind mythic items by forcing players to decide if they want a monster set, ability altering weapon, two 5 piece sets, etc. Ex: Gaze of Sithis mythic takes up a head slot making it the only mythic item where the player is not able to pair a mythic with a monster set. Players are not meant to have it all, but are encouraged to play around with their weapon slots to put as much as they can into their build.

Other than that I would love an option in the appearance menu to equip additional items that affect appearance.

I can see backpacks working, but back in the day ZOS were not able to code capes and cloaks properly, which is why the infamous Breton hero costume looks the way it does.

    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Guild Wars has such cool capes. And even in a town full of capes no fps loss. How did they do it?! 😲

Guild Wars 2 has a back slot that you can hide or show and it can be used for stats too, but I'm not a fan of it for stats. I like it for cosmetics only.

I think for cosmetics only it would be nice. Maybe if a game mechanic is tide to it it could be used to give +5 to inventory or +5 to looking slick. 😂

Different engine. Probably a similar reason to why capes won't work as there is to not being able to swim underwater or (ugh) flying mounts.

Personally I don't think the original engine was designed with the customisation it's attempting to implement currently, ESO is a victim of it's own success. What we're getting (for it to remain current/relevant) are band aid fixes and implementation of things the original coders hadn't thought of or included.

I have my own thoughts on the matter (please elaborate).
Legendary items are powerful so there should be a sacrifice when slotting one.

Medium length hair clips with armor. Sheathed weapons clip with armor. Armor clips with armor. Why add to the clipping?
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

No way. I'm a minimalist and accessories just get in my way.
Personally? No. Never really cared about the old "beltpouches, scabbards, packs, etc" mods for the TES games. All that "adventure hobo" stuff gets in the way of Cool Outfits. :#

Where do you think they kept all their stuff

    Hammerspace, clearly. :#

No capes, backpacks or other weird asianlike MMO stuff. I would rather focus on fixing the game already

No clipping is bad enough as is.

    For cosmetic purposes, sure.

For yet another way to have even more procs, no.

The outfit / disguise slot is already there and could accommodate "social armour". ie: single piece, complete outfits that cover your equipment armour.

They could probably make the slot more than aesthetic, too, allowing for items with powers to be equipped there.

I'd just like to have a "hide tabard" option like we have with helmets. That way I can wear one and still show my armor instead of always wearing a costume to hide the ugly tabards.
