What Should My DPS Be

Wanakanabe
I am struggling with DPS. I know some has to do with trying to lock down a rotation that is comfortable and effective. Not so sure how my gear affects anything. I have watched hours of videos and hours of reading and have spent quite a bit of time testing certain things out and still cannot get anywhere near a respectable number. Doing this I don't use potions or food, this is straight up raw dps. Don't think food/potions would do very much on improvement.
I see so many people saying how they are getting 90-11+ dps and I have been told guilds won't let you in on raids if you can't get some high number dps.
Here is what I am getting....

And this is my build...

Also my weapon crit is 49.5 and stam recovery 1315

I can't see the photo so may be useful to put some basic details down, but I will say that food and potions are important, they will increase your sustain and your max resource pool which impacts on damage done. There are also weapon potions that can really help increase dam.

With regards to your build, it first depends on what your aim is. Solo play/group normal dungeons/vet dungeons/normal trials/vet trials/PVP/battlegrounds etc

I see you are a stamplar. You seem to have a few healing on the back bar, in a group situation with a healer you probablyt only need an emergency heal, so you can use slots for other skills. Once you have the soul line maxed out you don't need a soul skill on your bar, you will get soul gems coming out of your ears.

If you are looking at group trials etc, I would say try and get two full 5 piece sets, rather than 3 or 4 sets as you have now. Deadly and hundings would work nicely for now, and work towards getting monster sets from dungeons. Until then choose a set that has a nice two piece bonus that can be crafted.

CP wise I think I see you aren't yet CP160, so I would do that first, then focus on your sets. Do some normal dungeons to get practice at them before going into vet for the monster sets (Selenes is traditional on a stam)

Good luck, and enjoy the journey!

Ok, your problem is your gear and maybe also some skills… Get full deadly strike with some crit set to improve crit chance - leviathan is easy to farm on normal crypt of hearts, or try to get tzogvin set…
For solo you can also use crit set + briarheart/hunding + slimecraw (two one piece crit or full set)

My combo on stamplar is full 5x medium deadly (divines trait) + slimecraw monster set on body, 3x tzogvin jewels (can be robust, later you can switch to bloodthirsty), dualwield dagger (nirnhoded) + axe (precise) with poison …
On backbar use maelstrom bow or tzogvin bow infused with weapon damage enchant…

On frontbar I am using jabs + Potl ( was buffed last patch) + whirlwind (execute)+ camo hunter + repentance/ flyin dagger (for major brut if not using potions) + eawnbreaker as ulti..
After latest patch use caltrops on backbar for breach uptime, so your backbar syould be endless hail, caltrops, rune focus (stamina morph), camo hunter, vigor/ honor the dead, as ulti empowering sweep…

Rotation is more-less static with tzogvin (you do not have to use barbed trap) :
    prebuff rune focus and then
frontbar Potl, barswap to backbar - caltrops, endless hail, barswap , 3-4 x jabs, potl, 5-6 x jabs
repeat to death… when ulti is ready replace one jabs eith ulti or rune as needed…
under 25% health switch from jabs to whirlwind

Stamplar is easy to push solid numbers and does not require top gear to wear ( most of above gear is easy to farm). You can push more 50K DPS with purple gear (gold weapons) and average rotation speed ( practicing LA weaving is your goal )…

You can also switch to 2H/bow or dw/2H build, you can find many good builds on web 👍

14 light attacks in 1 minute is a huge DPS loss. You should be close to 50 in that time. 60 if you are perfect. You know about LA weaving? Hitting the LA button just before each skill?

It also looks like Endless Hail and Consuming Trap are only hitting for a fraction of the time. They should be up all the time, and should have nearly 60 hits each for a one minute parse.

You have only full Hundings set, while Deadly and Briarheart are both missing pieces, so you are losing out on 18% more DoT (assuming you keep those DoT's up of course) without Deadly and/or ~330 WD (average over time) without Briarheart up.

You heavy attack 3 times in that 60 seconds. If you used parse food, you wouldn't have to HA at all, increasing your sustain and damage both.

Explosive Charge...why? No need for that skill while testing DPS. It's a DPS loss. What Ultimate do you use? Ultimates are generally a large DPS bump and I see none being used on your test.

Honestly there is a lot going on here. CP is a rather large bump also.

Check out something like Alcasts website. It will point you in the right direction.

I'd say the area where you have the biggest room for improvement is casting skills faster. You use roughly one skill every 3 seconds. The people who get those super high numbers will do one light attack and one skill every second.

Appreciate all the feedback, I have changed some things up as directed and did a get a pretty good boost in dps and the golem raid dummy. I will keep practicing that weaving. My ideas on the bar set up was to have the dots on back and spammable and buffs on front for easier bar switching. thank you!

Been working on my LA's. I never noticed how many of those i was missing til Danno mentioned it. I went from averaging 14 a minute to now pretty consistent 35 and sometimes a 40, I am just working on jab/LA, no others. If I can get those numbers up, I'll add another ability and work that for a bit.
Funny thing is, using just jabs and LA, I am getting higher DPS than I was using all the other abilities. Just using those two, jabs/LA I am getting about 22k.
I think I am on the right path now. I was almost ready to call it on the game because I don't want to be in a group if I can't pull my weight and I need groups to get better gear. Thanks again everyone

Getting high dps is practise, practise, practise.
If you don't want to waste expensive potions while you do, at least use something that'll help you get resources back. At this point as long as you're working on your weaving, do don't necessarily need potions that provide extra damage buffs too. If you weave faster, and miss few LA's, then you can start doing it "properly" with the right gear, the potions, the works, because the final dps number is not important until you master weaving, also, the final dps number will come when you do. You want to look at the other tab on combat metrics to see how you're improving

    Screenshot-3.jpg

This is a magsorc but the principle is the same. The first underlined number is weaving average, the lower the number the more efficient you are. The second is how many LA's you did vs how many skills you've casted. You want the difference to be small or better yet, nonexistent.
That is from a (recent) 100k parse.
And the way I achieved this (I was where you am, dps wise, less than a year ago) is parsing every day for an hour.

Having the right gear helps, and you obviously need a lot more CP before you'll reach your potential, but none of it means anything if you don't know how to weave.

There is more to DPS than learning what you have to hit numbers wise in order to be successful. It’s important to also learn what makes your build tick so you can learn how all the pieces fit together to ramp up your damage numbers. I see ole ty of people here have already chimed in and the two biggest points I see that have been made are the importance of light attack weaving and also use of proper potions and food.

I also see someone mentioned that you only have one 5pc bonus and that also cannot be understated, you need to have a second 5 piece set and a 2 piece set as well. Eventually you will get into ability modifying weapons like maelstrom bow or BRP daggers but those are not necessary for hitting 80k+ which is adequate for completing all of the content in the game. I know groups are asking for 95K+ and some even over 100K but that’s end game score pushing groups, don’t get intimidated by those huge numbers.

So back to light attack weaving. This works best when you cast a skill immediately after a light attack in sort of a heartbeat pattern. There is a global cooldown of 1 LA+Skill every second so there is no real need to rush, keep your “heartbeat” steady and smooth. And elevated heart rate as in real life can lead to trouble! Fit your bar swaps, potions and synergies i to the space between your heart beats and that’s your rhythm. Once you have your rhythm it’s a matter of practice to get comfortable and this will be the most significant way to increase DPS.

The next step is uptimes of your dots. Some of them greatly increase your damage like your beserker enchant on your bow backbar which adds a significant amount of damage to all of your other attacks and skills. Or skills like barbed trap which add 10% critical damage. 10% is a lot in the grand scheme of the game. Also your particular ultimate adds a huge amount of DPS and you want to make sure your got all of your other modifiers up when you cast it as well like barbed trap and arrow barrage proccing your beserker enchant. All of those things running together will empower your jabs and make them hit significantly harder as will correct food and potions.

Think of all that stuff as damage modifiers. Jabs are your bread and butter and their base damage is modified based on your stam pool modified from food, penetration from weapon sets/traits, buffs like major brutality and major savagery from potions, enchants like beserker on your back bar procced by your dots, weapon damage enchants on your jewelry, minor force from barbed trap, 5pc set bonuses which grant more crit dmg/chance or weapon damage, plus other group buffs like you get on the raid dummy and you better understand how all of the moving parts work towards bigger damage numbers.

I haven’t even talked about passives yet which also factor into the equation such as why a stamplar loads its bar with fighters guild skills. It’s for the passive damage you get from the fighters guild skill line which applies to all attacks and skills used on the bar not just fighters guild. I also haven’t talked about bloodthirsty traits for jewelry which do add significant damage to optimized builds.

So for now stuck to your LA weaving and make sure you educate yourself regarding potion/food usage. To that effect get your provisioning and alchemy up to lv50 and get those passives as well. That’s also an important piece of the puzzle because 100% potion uptime is also key to unlocking your DPS potential.

Anyway GL and hopefully my wall of text didn’t bore you too much!
