Non combat pets given names should show over their head

If I name my Alik'r Dune-Hound Spot, it should say Spot over his head instead of Alik'r Dune-Hound... but it doesn't.

What is the point of renaming our pets if no one sees their names? Especially for pets inside our houses.

Eh, I don't really want to see pet names. WAY too much leeway for stuff I just do not want displayed on my screen. You KNOW people are going to name pets stuff that's.... grossly objectionable.

I'd go for it only if I could disable the display of pet names....

I agree with this. Especially what some players may use as names. That would force unnecessary work upon Zenimax to respond to reports of inappropriate names and police such matters. It would not surprise me if this is the very reason why Zenimax does not have the pet names to show.

They could put a toggle to show them or not.

yeah would need to be something that could be toggled on/off. Most my pets I use I named Bucket after a dog I had. I do have one pet (the Chub Loon) I named after a prominent politician so I would probably be the reason this isn't a good idea.

    Here is the real Bucket.

Awww - cute doggo @kargen27! Yeah, it's really unfortunate that people would probably do really awful things with pet names. This is why we can't have nice things.

Been there done that in other games. *shudder*

Other games allow you to name your pets and there is a filter akin to the one used for character naming.

Not when I played a couple of them (many years back now: 2006 - 2016) - but my daughter and sister still play one of them, and the issue still exists. Egregiously outrageous names have to be reported to support agents, and sometimes they get removed, but sometimes they don't.

Awww what a cutie! He looks a lot like a dog I once had named Max.

I guess I'm spoiled from WoW where we could name all our pets and their names showed.

I agree also, we already have enough GUI clutter (as already mentioned above). I'd like an option to remove the marker that always shows above the combat pets, because it looks bad in the screendumps I occasionally do.

No thank you.. would just be more needless information on the screen for people using nameplates

Just let us disable all pet and summon from other player already.
Their is no point to see them in PvE. Keep the summon in pvp.

    Easy QoL + Perf imporvement.

I never use nameplates but going by the OP's post it sounds like they already show a name for the pet, but it's the name of the animal (like Alik'r Dune Hound) rather than the individual name the owner has given it. So this wouldn't add any more clutter and in some cases might reduce it because the name they're given is shorter (again like the OP's example, where it would be reduced to Spot).

But how many would choose a shorter name.. how often would a pet name now be confused with a player name in a stress situation.. how often would a pet name be abused.. the list goes on.. I'll agree with those who say that IF it comes, it should come with a toggle, preferably one that hides pets all together.. I hate looking at them already, and I'll hate it a thousand times more if they start coming with idiotic names too

I don't mind seeing others' pets. It's part of the world, an enjoyable part for me. Again, if the disable pets and summons was a toggle that would be fine.

This is a point I hadn't considered, but there is already a toggle present... nameplates. I always had these toggled on, but am going to try them off for now, at least for npcs.

But if a name is already showing why can't it be the pet's given name? And I am mostly concerned with the name showing in my house which is the only place I would ever have a pet out anyway.

Also my pets name is in green like npcs, not blue like players, so they wouldn't be mistaken for a player.
