AVG 2013 won't allow client to open

ljrichardson11b16_ESO
So my AVG 2013 Anti Virus software won't allow the ESO program to open. I've allowed it but it still blocks it and all I get is the little ESO symbol in my tray but then nothing. I have to physically turn off my anti virus to open it and then turn it back on. Is there a way to fix this?

Similar trouble with Avira Internet Security 2013 on Windows 8.1. My AIS license is for 2013 version and not support 2014 version. If antivirus turned on - game wasn't loading and error 210 appears, when module Web Security turned off - no problems. Maybe helpful to you and same module in AVG.
I hate antivirus developers . All modern new versions of antivirus software almost any company interfere somehow work computer and its software , causing a variety of bugs and lock things safe . But they are not real viruses are finding the ability to customize them for yourself cut products are designed to blunt lamer and become lousy quality . Example Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - a good antivirus , 2013 - Brake and worse on the interface , and in 2014 cut out all the additional settings and sliders made only 3 levels of protection. What do you think ? Before I even download an infected file could not - now safely download and run , nothing is locked in the archives on Virus 3370 is a little more than 1200 . It's like at all? Other companies are going the same route with their products interfere with normal applications.

I have Avast Free Edition and have no issues. Might want to try that instead.

I use AVG as well, but no problems here. I would go through your AVG setting and see if you can identify any setting which may effect your ESO client.

It is possible that the client could get into untrusted module firewall AVG or any other module. If adding to the exceptions and enabled applications do not help - you need to look bad module by disabling them one by one. In my case, the culprit in the exceptions module to add the file in any way can not only web addresses and File / MIME types.
  • ljrichardson11b16_ESO
So updated my AVG to 2014 and I still have this problem, have to turn off the whole program to open the client :/

You must Allow eso.exe and all exe files in your AVG Firewall module. If you use automatic mode in firewall change it to interactive, automatic - worst choice and works bad in any antivirus software. Newer use automatic!
  • ljrichardson11b16_ESO
I've done all that, I've just doubled checked as well, I'm using interactive and I've allowed access through firewall for all ESO related files. When I open the client all I get is the ESO icon in the tray, but nothing else.
  • ljrichardson11b16_ESO
Every other client asks me now when I wanted to open it, thats fine but for some reason ESO doesnt.

You are very difficult to properly configure your antivirus product or love to use default stupid settings? Very difficult to make such permission in the firewall module three executable files of the game? See screenshot.

I'll be blunt here. AVG sucks. Does well enough on the virus detection front, but most of the computers with AVG that have been brought to me with problems had problems caused by AVG. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an anti-virus solution.

Just my two cents on the subject.

All anti-virus products , especially their new versions are designed for fool user and idiotic automation that never works fine, but if you are an experienced user - you will not be difficult to configure the antivirus so that it worked for you in manual mode, and ask your solutions for any occasion. Then and only then the antivirus will work properly and not cause glitches (or their number will be reduced to a minimum, unfortunately now all antivirus products cause glitches in the system or otherwise irritate the user, and every anti-virus company says that its antivirus best, their product best of the best, but everything goes to the fact that people will eventually use products like Avast, which do not protect (do not see a simple autorun virus on a flash drive), but it does not cause glitches).

Similar issue with Comodo internet security as well. Had to exclude eso.exe in both antivirus and firewall modules to get it working.

So I just figured out what was stopping it, it was the link scanner surf shield. I turned off each individual part of my anti virus until it finally opened and when I disabled this part of the program it opened. Now I'm not entirely sure what this part of the program does so I'll have to look into it, but can someone give me a general run down on it?

As to @Strangerfull, I don't understand "You are very difficult" as I said I did all those permissions and it didn't work.

Found a similar thread on the AVG forums http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=241718&type=0

So you have an individual problem, perhaps even with an obsolete version of your antivirus product. Computer problems can occur for any reason, someone some problems, someone other, you're out of luck(
  • ljrichardson11b16_ESO
It's not obsolete, do you not read my posts? I updated my AVG to 2014. It's not an individual reason otherwise how would I of found a thread on AVG's own forums from someone else with the same problem? Very much the opposite of an individual problem.

But I do not have this problem with AVG 2014. What am I doing wrong that I do not have a problem?
  • ljrichardson11b16_ESO
I don't know, what I do know is my Surf-Shield stops the client from opening. and despite allowing it through firewall and anti virus it still blocks it.

I had an update to AVG 2014 today (AVG asked for a system restart). After the restart, I now have a similar problem. The launcher is fine, but I can only play the game for about 10-20 min and then my Internet connection dies (no game, no web or ftp access)... like it's overloading the router or something because my wife's connection is affected too (and she doesn't have the game on her machine). When I disable AVG entirely I have no issue anymore. I will try disabling just the LinkScanner Surf-Shield tomorrow as the thread on the AVG forums seems to indicate that's the culprit.

Edit: Disabling the Web-Surfing protection (Surf-Shield) did the trick... I'm not surfing the web while playing anyway and I turned it back on when my game session was over.

I had the exact same issue with the game not launching. It would get to log in, but then I'd get the 301 Error. I added all the ESO exceptions, turned on, and off firewall etc, etc, etc... tried all the suggested fixes from ESO. NOTHING worked. I have the latest version of AVG, and nothing worked except disabling AVG altogether.. (That is not gonna happen)

I just saw your post about the Link Shield. I tried it. IT WORKED! Thank you for posting your solution!!
