Fix Undaunted chest behavior?

Morvak

So we spend all that time doing undaunted dailies to get keys to open chests for random surprise loot. That’s fine!

But when I wear only medium armor, why can’t there be an option to choose the random armor loot in the type I prefer?

I just spent 10 keys to get a light and heavy piece that I deconstructed. What a waste.

I then went and crafted my own armor set and farmed pieces of another.

Now I’m wondering what the point of undaunted is (besides the skill line)?

Does anyone else have this complaint or is it just me?

The original design was a random shoulder from the entire list of dungeons the specific pledge grantor dealt with. The set bonus, armor weight, and trait were all random. It took some players well over a hundred keys to get what they wanted.

Now our odds are between two different sets for 5 keys, the trait it drops in is almost irrelevant, and once we have the weight we want we can recreate it at will.

Because it's grinding game and they want dungeon finder to be active. This is for the same reason why you have to walk from one point on the map to the other to talk to some NPC and then go back during quests without a single demanding combat. They want to trick you to play the game longer and make you feel it's so huge and long. After all they want to put minimal effort and do profit. It's just buisness.

It's so much better than it used to be. At one point, it was one giant loot pool and we couldnt change traits. The purpose is that for two pieces of gear, you can either get unique set bonuses or mix and match for very stat dense pieces, compared to most 5 piece set options.

I am down to 8 shoulder pieces (7 DLC, 1 non-DLC) not in my sticker book of all the monster sets. Been going down a stats rabbit hole of the best way to get them with the least amount of keys. The reality is, that until you are down to your last few, the random single keys (as opposed to the 5 keys that limits to two sets) is often the better statistical answer, unless you are missing a lot of the specific 5 key loot pool.

For example, on the one non DLC shoulder I need (light Kragh), I am better off spending on the 5 box items (or more likely, waiting for it to drop in the golden ). For the 7 DLC I still need, because they are all different 5 key boxes, I am actually better off spending on the single keys until I check a few more off the list.

Now of course, when a new DLC comes out, you are better off spending 5 keys at least a few times to specifically fill out your sticker book for those pieces. And by that logic, if after 1 specific piece, you probably want to spend the 5s, but if just trying to fill your book, the 1 key is almost always the best answer until you only have a handful left. If you can ever get ahead to the point where you are only after the most recent ones, it makes sense to spend 5 keys until they are gone.

It's certainly worth pointing out that the 5 key option probably costs too much based on the stats and should be lowered. Even if after a specific shoulder, set and weight (not even talking traits), you will on average spend 30 keys per item if using the 5 key method. Out of the two non DLC and DLC vendors, if just spending single tees, you will spend 36 keys on average for Non-DLC (barely different) and 60 for the DLC (twice as many). The single keys come with the added benefit of filling out the rest of your book more efficiently.

TLDR: Unless you are set on a very specific piece, spend the single keys. Also, perhaps its time for ZOS to split the DLC into two vendors.

You may not want to run all medium next patch anyway.

A couple of months ago i did a respec on my one and only character from magica to stamina and needed a medium shoulder from a specific monster set.
I had more than 100 keys. that is 20 x 5 keys chests and a few 1x keys ones. I kept getting the shoulder from the other set in different weights and ONE shoulder from the set i was interested in, but obviously it was a heavy one, not medium.
I ended up going back to magica and never did a single pledge ever since.
