Daily PUG Trial

There is this recurring idea of random trials on this forum. Some people reject it immediately, some are all in, but I don't think that most people get how complicated things could turn out.

Because IMHO 1. random trial wouldn't work for a simple reason: trials are much more complicated than usual dungeon & there is too much of them for the new player to be prepare to. And it would be pretty reasonable to assume that in such random group you would always have some first runners. And more advanced people not satisfy with the selected trial would simply quit the game (what is happening even in random dungeons).

Secondly, making specific queues will not work either, because i do not think there is enough players to fill all the options (sorry, Craglorn might be active in some hours but the rest of the day is rather... poor). Sure, some dungeons might be slightly more popular than others (CR, SS) and have higher chances of gathering a group, but ultimately if players would be disperse among different queues, then expecting time (especially for not tanks & not healers on less popular trials) would go towards infinity ;p So situation would be similar to BG.

So my solution is quite simple: MAKE A DAILY PUG TRIAL SIMILAR TO THE UNDAUNTED PLEDGE.

How could it work? Everyday we would have a trial of the day and any player that want to participate, could join a queue as a single player or leader of the pre-made group - one for normal, one for vet - just get the same trial on both difficulties, so some people can have some normal runs before taking vet (it is helping, at least for me).

This way, players would exactly know what they are going against & they will be able to prepare - and there is a lot guides they could check before or during waiting in queue ;p

The only thing that should be implemented are "population" counters for each role (similar to alliance counters in the Cyro) so people would see if there is a point in waiting as a DD, or maybe they could switch to a tank or healer, if they have a proper alt (at least fake tanks would be quickly verified).

This way not only single players would have a chance to participate in trial, but even guild groups would have much easier time to get those 4DD they are always looking for in Craglorn ;p

Sure, the solution is not perfect and it would surely have the same issues as random dungeon currently have BUT I think it wouldn't be worse than a chaos we now have in Craglorn.

I have participated in many random group, sometimes from Craglorn, sometime invited by guildmates, and there was a lot of problems (especially in SS when people running for chests after first dragon constantly activated mobs ^^) but the only trial that ultimately fail was... CR+3. Yeah, i should see it coming ^^

So I really think that could work.

Any questions, opinions, analysis? ;)

So a player that does not have access to certain DLCs cannot participate most of the time? There are only three trials that are part of the base game. Also, it would not work until and unless Zenimax chooses to add trials in some manner to the activity finder.

This seems to be a copy of what SWTOR did which also lead to a severe nerfing of their normal raids to try to make them doable by pug groups. Even then most groups that do the daily raid are pre-made groups. Very rare to find a pug group formed by the AF.

Exactly, most groups are premade, so instead of "i need to go to Craglorn to beg for some DD", raid leader could focus on introducing to new players from pug queue.

And people that cannot access a certain trial, wouldn't do it anyway, right? So lets count.

ATM we have 9 trials + 1 mini trial.

4 (3 in Craglorn +HoF that are already in the base game) are available to anyone.

4 are part of ESO+ (MoL, SS, CR, KA). Also mini trial is part of CC but it could be set apart.

1 required a latest chapter (RG). Lets do it on Sunday, as extra xd

This mean, that if they would organize a roster interexchangeable: 1 day for normal, 1 day for eso+ all players would have 50% chances of participate in Trial. Every second day.

Yea a normal trial queue would be very nice. I like the idea with an undaunted daily too. Should be locked until you reach cp 160. In WoW you also have normal raid queues. So why should eso not have them?

But please no vet trial queues. That would never work out and end up in toxicity. For vet trials a tool where you can list a group and see the gear and player stats of applying people could work out. So you would be able to sort out people that are not rdy.

First timers should always learn in a guild before they even think about attempting vtrials.

Well, I think you are right with vet queue. It is much more complicated, especially when chasing achievements.

But normal... You can pass with average build & get an equipment you are looking for - that is fair enough.
