Chest Difficulty vs Reward

Is there any correlation between the difficulty of a chest and the Xp/contents? Ive being trying to notice if there is any difference but it appears not. I unlocked several Master level chests and then a couple of Simple level chests, the items/gold appeared the same and I am sure that I received more Xp for the simple level chests?
