I think the "trick" is just to have a system - one place for each type of item which is easy to remember.

I don't usually subscribe and in order to store crafting materials I have them split between my crafter's inventory, the bank and a storage chest but I never have trouble finding things because I know what's in each place.
    • Blacksmithing, woodworking, clothier and jeweller materials are in his inventory
    • Alchemy, enchanting, provisioning and furnishing materials and racial style materials are in the bank
    • All other style materials and all traits are in a storage chest

It's the same with everything else, all my spare furnishings go into a storage chest so if I see any somewhere else I know it needs to be moved. Sometimes that takes a while because I don't sort everything out every day but if I notice anything building up in the wrong place I'll move it.

Great, now when you get a real big collection, let me know how that works out for you.. if you are the collector type that don't destroy stuff, I foresee issues in your future

I don't see any reason the system can't scale up by introducing more categories. The important thing is having a specific place to store each item, not keeping them all in the same place. For example if I had more spare furnishings than would fit in one chest and for some reason I wanted to keep all of them but not place any of them in a house I'd split them between two chests either alphabetically or by the furnishing categories the game already has (whichever I find easiest to use). That way I'd still be able to find all of them no matter how many there are.

If I was using more than one character as a mule I might make a note of who has what, but again that's easy to do.

Of course there is a finite amount of storage space per account so at some point it would be impossible to find space for new things, but that's not what the topic was about, it was talking about how to find things and make sure you're not keeping duplicate copies in different places.

When I worked in retail we had literally thousands of products across 3 floors in a warehouse but everyone knew where they all were and where to put new ones because we had a system for it. It wasn't always obviously logical - jewellery, computer games and high-end tableware were all kept together because they're valuable and easy to steal so they stayed in a locked room. But that was fine because we knew that's where they were, so they were still easy to find even if they weren't kept next to similar items. This is the same idea, but with fewer items.

No matter how many categories you introduce, it won't help so line as you gotta do the sorting manually.. adding more of it would actually just make it harder..

    I see 2 solutions

1: Cut away all the chest except one, make it upgradeable and add auto categories like in your regular bank

    2: Furniture bag

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm looking for..

What exactly do you want the addon to do?

Some kind of organization, removing some of the work for us.. With the amount of items that I have, and how often I use them, placing stuff in houses for storage is not an option for 80% of the stuff

Do you want the addon to physically move the items so they are more organized? Or just to keep a better record of where they are, with the list organized by type etc.?

If you want a degree of automated inventory management, then BankManager Revised is probably the addon you want to be using. It's a little finicky (I've had to nuke it's rules a few times over the years because it got hung up on something.) But it can be configured to automatically move items around. It can't help you with your storage chests.

The best solution I've got on storage chest management is to set them up in a tight space, with a banker assistant nearby, so you can quickly move between them, and then create a sorting scheme for the chests themselves manually. Like, using one for furnishings, another for specific gear sets, ect.

One of BankManager Revised limitations is, it doesn't know what to do with storage chests, and can't sort into those. But, if you have a furnishings chest or two, you can manually push them all into that container.

Here's some visual ideas for setting up containers:

By "storage house" you mean a house you have where items are out and placed so you can just go look for them?

    Yes.

In fact I have renamed the Psijic Villa to be "Storage Villa"
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis
