Housing chest organization

I admit it, I'm about to go insane.. The furniture system is making me barking mad.. Trying to organize 8 chests, player inventory and bank inventory.. Please tell me that there is an addon or something to do this?? Currently, just as an example, I have the same painting in 4 different locations.. Having to search the chests, which btw dont't work properly (1), is horrifying

(1) If you go to chest A and type "tree" in the search field, it won't activate in chest 2 unless you delete/add new letters..

Same happens to me but I did organize it in the way that I keep all furniture in the bank and in a storage house.
In chests I put gear I don't want to decon or sets I have maxed out to yellow.
I would welcome if we could name our chests somehow and when we scroll over them we could see the name.

Inventory Insight will tell you the names of chests something is in. I used that a while ago to consolidate furniture into the right chests.

We can. When the chest is open there is a rename option at the bottom of the screen. Once you've named it you can see its name when hovering over it.

Exactly, I have used constellation names to organize items in some manner: Warrior for Stamina sets, Mage for Magicka, Atronach for Tank, Ritual for healers, Serpent for Monster sets, Lord for Arena items. The last one I am using for everyday things and I have left as it was rename by my original char: Nutt gro-Uuk at the beginning or the ESO adventure. As "The Luggage" xd

There are already systems to let me see where it is, built into the game.. That does not help with the organizing though

Organizing is at your end but in base game you can't know where all your account items are. Insight Inventory sure helps a lot:

    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info731-InventoryInsight.html

    - tracks everything in your characters' Bags, Bank, Guild Banks, CraftBag and Storage Chests
    - tracks items in House(s) (configurable)
    - keeps track of the Gold / AP / Telvar Stones / Writ Vouchers for each character
    - keeps track of the space used/available for each character
    - allows filtering your inventory by item type
    - lets you search the items by name, or by set name
    - adds data to item tooltip showing you where that item is located (all popups/tooltips, or only when over the Inventory Insight window)

I've sort of gotten mine sorted out, I use most for furns, 1 for spare sets, named them something along the lines of: Gears n junk, Legendary furns, pictures, books, unique items, rare items (only if there's 2-3 of them) basicly, whatever clutters up the bank the most, (also use my bigger houses for furniture storage - by furn-category - and rename the house to the 1-2 categories stored)

Lastly, placement, if there's not a designated treasure-area i try to distribute them in a logical order (by whats in the chests), often make sure to use a table that can hold one or two of them underneath near the craftstations where there's a decoration-logic in placing tools and whatnot.

Regarding locating them I think it's my Essential Housing Tools that lets me search for furns, or by mousing over a single furniture in inventory, can see in what storagechests/houses my items are located in. EHT besides that has alot of neaaat functions, worth checking out ^^
    Edit = Typos ... as usual. <;D

If you have ANY furniture items in storage, you're doing it wrong. Take a house that you don't plan on using like one of the free ones you get like with Elf Island, Kitty Land, or Nord Country and just fill it up. Don't matter where you place it, just stack them and come back later when you need it.

Organizing is something you can learn. You could start by gathering up all the stackable pieces instead of having separate pieces scattered around taking up space, and stack them all together.

I don't know what types of items you are storing, but most of mine are furnishings, which I keep in the bank. The only other things in my bank are 3 pieces of Mother's Sorrow and some Companion gear. And when I've been decorating and end up with some furnishings in my bag I always return them to the bank when I'm finished. This way they are always accessible for all my houses all the time.

I only have 4 chests in my house. One holds restoration potions and poisons, one is for soul gems, lockpicks and other random items, one is for food and potions I need for writs and the last I use to transfer things to other characters, like recipes I've found that I want to get to my main crafter for instance, and experience scrolls.

Other players find having a house or houses dedicated to holding your furnishings helpful. One poster in another thread has them organized by type. For instance all plants and yard things in one house, and all lighting and knickknacks in another, etc.. This way is easier to find an item when you need it.

What exactly do you want the addon to do?

Some kind of organization, removing some of the work for us.. With the amount of items that I have, and how often I use them, placing stuff in houses for storage is not an option for 80% of the stuff

Do you want the addon to physically move the items so they are more organized? Or just to keep a better record of where they are, with the list organized by type etc.?

I name mine according to the contents. 2 chests are for treasure map storage, 1 for spare gear, 1 for main storage (food, potions, kind of a whatever chest), 1 for collections (for all those collectible items), and 1 more for surveys. I still have to get 2 more from the writ vendor. Any mats go into my bank for multiple character use. I don't put anything in another chest that it doesn't belong in. Saves extra work to be organized. Also I'm on console so no add ons for me.

Why do you have them in 4 different locations? If they are the same painting then just stack them and put them in a storage chest, or place them all in the same storage house.

Could be a system like the ones for guild banks, that auto stack items.. so that it could move things from one chest to another.. even better though, would be if ZOS changed the housing chest system, so that it was one big storage

That's what I'm trying to say.. so many items, spread out over 10 different storage units.. it's a nightmare, and a minigame in itself

By "storage house" you mean a house you have where items are out and placed so you can just go look for them? Or do you mean you have chests in your storage house?

I haven't really started anything with houses yet, but already having difficulty with my first small house and furniture items I pick up as loot.

I have some apartments designated as 'storage' and I just go dump all non-used furniture in there in a big messy pile. I can use the 'retrieve' function in the 'browse' menu while inside the house to see what's in there and retrieve it into my bag so I can use it in a decorated house.

Many people have a house, for example the large free one from the Elsweyr main quest, where they dump furniture for later use

    I love this idea. ❤

I recently started a thread wanting to combine all my housing chests into one with tabs for each chest, but just having one chest that works like the bank would be ideal.

I'm not sure you've thought this through all the way. If the game were allowed to automatically move items between chests how would you ever know which chest they were sent to in order to find it later? And if it was treated as one large storage how would it handle houses that don't have all chests placed?

Just stop putting things in chests randomly and instead always keep similarly themed items together in the same chest and you won't have an issue.

... if it was treated as one large storage how would it handle houses that don't have all chests placed?

They could convert it like this:

I currently have 4 30 slot chests, so my single storage chest would have 120 slots.
For someone who has all 8 chests, 4 x 30 slots and 4 x 60 slots, their storage chest would have 360 slots.

A player who isn't maxed on chests/slots could still purchase the ones they don't have and increase their storage by the same amount as the chest purchased.

I wouldnt use them for furniture, I have... at least 2000 items of furniture in storage but they're all sitting at different houses and I know what is where. Lux indoor, lux outdoor, "trash and antiquities", Imperial, lighting.

My storage chests I have one for monster helms, one for shoulders, one for bound necklaces, one for rings, one for training armor.

And I can't emphasis this enough- get a private guild bank, it's so useful.

As to how it would handle one large storage.? Super easy, you have one chest which you just upgrade the capacity of.. it's really super simple.. as I see it, the only people who would "suffer" from that system, is people who like to have 8 free placeable chests.. And please stop telling me to just keep themed things together.. my.furniture collection is past that point, when such a limited storage is available

Edit: They could of course just add the furniture bag we've suggested so many times.. furniture is becoming about as manageable as ingredients

Yeah - instead of buying additional chests you’d just buy additional slots for your single chest, given free at level 18 (or purchased before that).

These problems would be instantly solved if Zos would just give us a furniture bag, just like the crafting bag. Currently I use 5 chests plus alts.
    chest 1. Conservatory items
    chest 2. courtyard etc.
I place the chests in each house so I can access them as I need them, same with the alts and the banker.
