Doing Coldharbour quests when NOT a new player?

Hi all! :)

I've been playing ESO for a few months, and was initially a bit confused by all the forum posts and other web pages talking about the "main quest", as it bore no resemblance to the main quest I had been assigned, because I'd started in Western Skyrim. Now, after some time spent in Western Skyrim, I'm interested in exploring Coldharbour.

After reading online about how the Coldharbour quest line is started, I found the hooded man on the ship near Vukhel Guard, but haven't tried to initiate these quests yet, because I was concerned about the effect it might have on my player. Everything I've read says that you have to die to enter Coldharbour, and I was wondering if this has any effect on my player. Will I lose all my accumulated weapons and other possessions, and my skills and abilities?

Regards & thanks,

Don't worry, you don't loose anything from your inventory or any skills and abilities.

It’s called the main quest because it will appear under that name in your quest log once you pick up the original ”main quest” of the original game before DLC and chapters like Blackwood ( the latest) were added. It is epic, so enjoy! And yes, talk to that hooded figure….that will begin your main quest journey.

And this is exactly why doing away with the original intro in favor of DLC flavored starting quests was such a bad idea.

The original intro (which you sadly will never be able to experience) explained everything, from being soulshriven (not dead) to your time in Oblivion to Molag Bal to Coldharbour to why you can use wayshrines and beyond.

ZOS really dropped the ball on this ...

Absolutely agree. I seriously regret not realizing this game was even around until after MW was part of the package.

Yep. And that makes me really happy. I start the prophet MQ at ~level 4, finish the first quest at level 5, do the Harborage quest which gets me most of the way to level 6, and do some easy exploring to finish level 6. Then I do the crafting quests (with XP scrolls) so I wind up at level 8, and do more exploring to hit level 10. Then I plant the level 10s at the stable master in Vivec until they hit 40 speed, which is when they go start on antiquities.

I really love my process.... I've had something similar in every game I've played, but this one just seems easier overall.

Looks good so far. I've just met the prophet in Coldharbour :) I read somewhere that returning to Coldharbour after leaving it can be tricky, so I guess I'll have to maximise the acquisitions while I'm there.

Just follow the main questline that you started here. You will get back to Coldharbour eventually and when that happens, you have access to it permanently.

It's really NOT tricky at all... you just have to follow along the MSQ... although the only tricky part is that one quest takes you to another zone above your first major zone (Auridon is AD's first major zone, the second is Grahtwood). For me, I always choose the Aldmeri Dominion alliance on every character, so upon exiting my initial trip into Coldharbour, I end up on Kenarthi's Roost (small starter zone) and then start my main alliance quest. Once you finish the small starter zone alliance quest, you end up on your first major zone where the MSQ picks up again... I usually do all quests as I venture through the zone... but you can just do the MSQ solely if that's what you want. After completing, I think it's nine quests, you then are given the "Messages Across Tamriel" quest from Vanus Galerion... which starts you on the path back into Coldharbour.

Now, if you're on PC and have addons and belong to any guilds (even guild traders), you can JUMP to any guildmates that are currently in Coldharbour. Granted, you wouldn't have access to the MSQ quests because you have to follow the MSQ in order to unlock specific areas in Coldharbour... but there are other quests you can already begin completing outside of the MSQ.

I got back to Coldharbour on the weekend, and have made good progress on it so far, and can I just say: Coldharbour is a great ESO zone! :) There are a few reasons for this:
    1. ample loot, I've never seen so many goodies to pick up, and my armour and weapons are looking better by the day as I upgrade them.
    2. the zone itself is very interesting, and seems to have been created with much inspiration.
    3. the quests, like the zone in general, are very good.
I'm really enjoying this zone, not that I haven't enjoyed the others so far, but this one definitely seems to be one of the better ones.
