I never had issues with those quests, and I've done them on multiple characters over the years, most of them not even geared for stealth. From what I remember there are more than the necessary number of caches for that mission spread around the cave so you can just avoid those spots completely and still finish the mission in time and without detection. Also most spots with constantly patrolling lamp carrying guards have baskets where you can hide or slightly hidden side passages you can move to until they pass.

So there are more caches/bags with gems on the map than required? Didn't knew that and assumed that I need to loot all I see.
This would make a huge difference if I could just skip some of them

I'm quite sure about it because the map markers show when you get near to them, and when I had 6/7 and picked up the 7th I saw the other near ones disappeared. The path I took was usually towards the pit with the stairs that go down and pick most of those there. There's even a guide for this mission:

Definitely. I think I've also encountered that top right cave being entirely blocked by lantern guards, but I've always been able to find enough gem bags elsewhere on the map to complete the heist.

Well, these quests (with DB equivalent) are not easy, but once you master stealth, you will increase chance of finishing them succesfully even with optional steps. Just take your time, spend few times on learning a topography of dungeons, especially hidden rooms which are crucial for hidings & completing tasks, get yourself a source of invisibility & reduce slowing of sneak - and in time you will complete them all.

What I found out is that the items you need to loot also spawn during the mission, I had to run back to a room I checked before and two gem bags appeard at a location I checked before.

that would mean we dont have to search the whole map, just sneak in a part of it and wait for the loot to spawn.

Also - didn't see anyone offer up this suggestion - And for all I know it may have been 'patched' out -

But back a few years ago when I was more actively playing and running these more regularly - I would wait until right BEFORE I left the sneak-area (leave the zone/before going up the ladder to the full-public zone again, whatever you call it) and take one of those bounty-reducing items I had piles of. Then go up the ladder - bam - get credit for a run with no detection.

So even if I got spotted, long as I used a bounty-reducing scroll/pot and got the bounty back down to zero - I'd get credit as if I was never detected. *erase erase all mistakes* is how I always thought of it. (lol) But it only works if you do it before the load screen between the areas, once you're 'back out in the world' even if you haven't turned in the quest - using the scroll after leaving the zone still reduces amount down to 0, but you don't get credit for no detection. ONLY Works that way if you use it BEFORE leaving the heist/stealth zone.

    I just kill everybody.

    This.

Those thieves and dark brotherhood dailies really made me angry. Why would I, an esteemed sorcerer who survived several dragons even bother to hide from some noobish guards who can barely hold a knife straight?

At first it was exciting. But then I have zero skill in hiding and zero patience so I just killed them all and paid my way out of the justice system.
