frequent ping 999+ since

I'm getting a frequent ping of 999+ since the start of the Pan-Elsweyr Celebration. On https://pingtestlive.com/eso-status I'm getting 21058.

I played other online games today without any trouble and on speedtest.net my internet service seems flawless at the moment. Before the Pan-Elsweyr Celebration I wasn't having this lag.

Is this normal during the event for all players or can it be a problem on my end?

btw... the TCP and UDP Ports are set on my routers for ages, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I always have really high ping in Elsweyr, and even more so now that it's full of players, so I am leaning toward the event being at the cause more than any problem on your end...

Mine’s been spiking at 999+ since U30 (are we on U30? The Blackwood update anyway). I’d never seen it above mid-60s before that. I also can’t get Speedtest to report lower than my expected bandwidth - 350+Mbps. Others have also reported high pings but I don’t think it’s been acknowledged by ZOS.

Yes, I own Blackwood. But in my game it was normal, around 100 before this event.

The game is really impossible to play, and it's not only in Elsweyr. I can't get below 999+ ping and now I'm being constantly removed from the game due to lag.

This is why I always hated events. They shouldn't do events with more than one or two days.

For some players events means no play. 10 days of 999+ ping is insane.

@NeKryXe Two issues to be aware of.
    1. On July 22, there were some server issues affecting PC/EU performance, fixed after several hours. (You didn't say which platform you are on.)
    2. Akamai had some big network problems on July 22 too. This may have indirectly affected you or your ISP.

That said, check with your ISP too to see if they are experiencing any other known issues. Likewise, shared internet connections (especially if other people are doing uploads on the same internet connection that you use) are murder on ESO performance - try test at a time when other people in your house are NOT streaming etc.

@NeKryXe : 999+ is bad! I'm in Melbourne, Australia, and just used the site you mentioned, and got about 280, which is pretty standard for the Australia - EU connection. That's the ping I play ESO with all the time.

That's "normal" when there's an event, especially on the first days. People come out of the ground and concentrate in one single region at once and servers can't handle it well. Feels like Cyrodiil on the PvE side

Just a data point to toss into the thread:

I play 17 toons at present, about 12 are just mules that stay mainly in town to do daily writs.
All my toons are set up the same way, with the same options on addons, and inventory slots/etc.

One particular generic (non-flashy) mule will frequently hit 5K+ ping and drop to 0 to 3 FPS for 15 to 20 seconds at a time while trading writ loot to my banker in exactly the same place and same circumstance as all my other toons that behave 'normally'. And that occurs whether there is an event or not.

I don't know why the servers hate that toon, but clearly they do.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

I'm on PC/EU and I'm the only one using the internet here. Yesterday it was way better, I'll see how it goes today.

https://pingtestlive.com/eso-status has the servers wrong. According to ZOS support pages, and IP location finders confirm this, 195.122.154.1 is the EU server located in Nurnberg, Germany and 198.20.198.110 is the NA server in Hunt Valley, MD.

Speedtest is a tool that has no application in testing connection to specific servers. What you should do is run tracert in command line, it shows you the way data is routed between you and the game servers. I'm in central Europe and playing on PC NA. Both during and outside of events, I get consistent 26ms up to Akamai data centers in Frankfurt am Main. The trouble begins when the data is passed around (I imagine for verification and anti-cheat purposes) between multiple Akamai nodes. It tends to time out either in Frankfurt or right after hopping overseas to the Akamai HQ in Cambridge, MA. I suspect many American players experience varying degree of lag and even timeouts because all their traffic is funneled through Cambridge.

That being said, https://pingtestlive.com/eso-status is giving me some interesting results too. I tested it several times to have at least a small sample:
    EU: 349, 471, 347, 399, 375, 380, 354, 399, 348, 349
    NA: 254, 253, 1858, 259, 248, 250, 10331, 19407, 247, 250
The hiccups in Akamai infrastructure are glaringly obvious but I find it even more interesting how I'm getting much lower and amazingly consistent latency on the NA server when Akamai doesn't get in the way too much. Actually outside of busy times like events, it's in the range of 165-185ms for me. It's far more reliable than what I get on a server that's located only ~450km away from where I live.

It's probably your internet connection. Try resetting your router.

@K9002 : that tracert suggestion was a good idea. I just found out that my connection to the ESO EU server is via the USA. It looks like I *might* get better performance if I switch to the NA server. If I switch servers, does all my player information get transferred, or do I have to start from the beginning again?

I also used the ping test server, and got these numbers:
    ?	Location:	Latency:	Average:	Status:
    	North America (NA)	570 421 406 66 202 654 100 410	354	Done
    	Europe (EU)	263 6061 8410 10119 14884 19933 264 4508	8055	Done

NA connection seems to be more stable (at least, at the moment) than EU for me, it's almost like the opposite of your numbers.

In fact, from this thread, the consensus by Australian players seems to be that the NA server is better:

I just came in the forums to report the same thing: 999+ spikes out of the blue, both in Cyrodiil and in overland. The ping won't fall below 300 (even though I usually have around 200). It just started happening today. I checked that nothing else was running on my computer, etc. Could @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_Kevin lets us know if this has been aknowledged and looked at hopefully?

+380 on a good day and random +999 on any random time and day. Lag is my lifestyle. Playing in Australia so I am very used to it. That said, I am experiencing a lot more disconnection problems since the end of Mayhem 2021.

You have to switch the labels. Upper line is EU and lower is NA because whoever runs that service mixed up the IPs. Regarding the move to another server, you start over. Not only your characters but also everything you unlocked through the crown store (like DLCs, character slots, cosmetics) is only valid on the server where you bought them. I don't know if unspent crowns carry over.

Oh, really? You mean my connection's better for EU than for NA at the moment? Perhaps I'm better off not switching, then :)

ESO is here since 2014, and the issue with the game is always the same.
    Performance.
They won't fix it. Don't get your hopes up.
