Coloring Companion's Costume Conundrum

I can put a costume on my character and color it any way I choose from my available color palette. When I exit the coloring menu the costume retains the colors I selected. I can then put the same costume on my companion, but when I attempt to color it, the costume reverts to it's default colors on exiting the coloring menu. Is there a separate step for retaining the selected colors for the costumes placed on companions?

Nope. Companion costume will have the same coloring as that of the character.

I tried identical costumes. The companion's costume still reverted to the default colors.

On PC I'm able to save the colors on a costume currently equipped by the companion by just confirming at the end.

    No issue with reversion.

Mmm. It is a strange and silly thing that. Over all the freedom and possibility to dress your companion is extremely limited. I never got why.

Works fine for me too. As a work around you can put the costume on you character, dye it how you want for your companion and then put it on them already dyed.

I see. So it won't retain any coloring other than default? Hmm, that should not be. I can dye and retain costumes for companions but, as I said, I can't put my char and companion in two differing coloring setups. The only thing I can think of is that is might have something to do with the fact that you are on console and I"m on PC.

Edit: I wonder also if it could have something to do with the fact that I have free costume dying via ESO+.

The costume data is kept per-character. If you make the costume pure orange for example on your character, and then equip the costume on your companion while still on your 'orange' character, then both of them share the same costume color data. Both the character and companion will be pure orange.

You can't have the same costume on a given character and the companion with different colors.

If you make the costume all orange on one character, and then log on to a different character, the costume data won't be orange. It's per-character. You'd need to customize it on each character.
