Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Something weird happened today when I launched the game.

Everything was fine last night but today all of a sudden I had to agree to a bunch of TOS/privacy agreements,
select a server, my country and agree to the game now being rated PEGI 18. There was also a cinematic I haven't
seen before I don't think - looked like the original one with Dark Anchors, Cyrodill and the Prophet narrating. That was
kind of cool but now my addons are no longer showing up and I had to agree to some other policy when opening the
add-ons menu. I'm just wondering, has anyone else experienced this? What is going on - was there some kind of update?

Sounds to me like you or Windows did something to your Documents folder

Check Documents\Elder Scrolls Online, and backup everything there.
If you have multiple drives on your system, find out which one really contains the Libraries\Documents folders

your usersettings.ini file in your documents folder has been deleted/replaced/corrupted and the game wrote you a new one.

Usually happens when a really bad crash occurs (extremely rare) or when you alt+F4 during loading screen or when you use the task manager to force close ESO. I suggest to back up your documents folder for saving your addon settings should this happen again.

I only ever experienced this error once and it was after my computer turned off during unexpected power outage.

The reason why this happens is quite simple and logical ( your settings files that are loading or actively being written become corrupted ). What isn't logical though, is that the game isn't programed to make backups of said files on launch. I've never seen a modern triple A title not have settings backup implemented. But let's not judge ZOS.

That happens to me when I accidentally launch 2 ESO clients at the same time.

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago also.
I kinda had a wtf moment, did all the agreements and stuff, and my game was there, all fine, so I didnt give it much thought.
    I blame the Windows update.
    BUT!
It did make the "Bethesda, Havoc, ZoS intro" come back.
I had it set to go straight to log in and bypass that , annoyingly loud" intro, and now I cant remember how to do it.
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance! Huzzah!

For some reason, I've never considered doing that. They are really noisy and annoying, I agree.

Anyway, I just got rid of that just now by going into the game directory

The Elder Scrolls Online > depot > Video

And copying Bethesa_logo.bk2, Bethesda_logo_1080p.bk2, ZOS_logo.bk2 and ZOS_logo_1080p.bk2 into new folder just for backup. Or I guess you can just delete them without harming anything. I like to play it safe though. :)

Thanks for giving me that idea! My ears can rest easy now.
Now if only there was a way to change the god awful menu music lol.

    • Close game and launcher.
    • Navigate to Users\[username]\Documents\Elder Scroll Online\live.
    • Open "User Settings.txt" in Notepad. Search for "Skip Pregame Videos"
    • Set 0 to 1 and save. Done!!
