Should there be mounted combat?

I feel it would be cool to have mounted combat with light/ heavy attacks along with mount based abilities for the mount to be able to be called and mounted just like oblivion and to be able to assign abilities for the mount just like the companions and to be able to use all your abilities while mounted. And a Mount level as well.

    It's ok everyone is entitled to an opinion. I feel it possible I won't sell the game programmers short because any is possible if you put your mind to it.

    Also, poor server performance in Cyrodiil would be the most solid reason it should not even be considered. Cyrodiil would be the most important place for mounted combat.

    And it provides an advantage to those already mounted. Zenimax seems very firm on not permitting us to mount while in combat. As such it would be problematic.

    For reference few patches ago they were hyping on stream about how they are going to introduce mounts that can have a passenger, but couldn't implement it in the end because it would kick people (the passengers) from the server for speed hacking.

    I think this would be interesting to see as a specialized battleground or even its own separate pvp queue. Keeping the changes limited to that mode would allow the developers to implement such a system with little to no impact on existing game systems!

    While mounted combat and sailing ships would be awesome, theres just no way they could do it.

    Well not now but when everyone can afford the next generation consoles they can as long as they don't charge the graphics because the higher graphic makes it hard for a game to run smoothly now if they dialed back the graphics a bit it probably work.

    hell no,

    This game have problem with super speed builds where you cant just hit enemy, Just go out 1 meter out of range, eg Dizzy and your opponent is frozen in the animation, because the game does not know what's going on.. Imagine what would happen to Mount Combat?

    Plus the advantage of characters that have 60 speed, 60 stamina. please do not. The game already has enough problems

    It's not just the graphics.

    The bigger problem is the communication between the server and the client, which is something that ZOS' coders have been struggling with for years.

    As has been stated, the servers couldn't handle two-person mounts.

    In addition, I realize you don't play in Cyrodiil, but mounted combat would have a huge impact on Cyrodiil. While I think it could be really fun, this is also another place where we see that the game's coding can't handle it. When running in a raid of 12 people with maxed mount speed, I frequently see "rubberbanding" where the communication between server and client incorrectly signals where someone's position was, then when it catches up, they "snap" into their new position like a rubber band being stretched and then released.

    If we're going to have re mounted combat in PVP, then the server/client communication must be able to keep up with the max speed players can go. You cannot properly fight someone if the server is not properly communicating their position to you. That's called a desync, and it's incredibly frustrating to take damage without being able to react because the server didn't let you.

    Can the Devs do this? I appreciate your confidence in them, but this is an area of Cyrodiil performance that has been problematic for years now. They haven't fixed other speed related desyncs, so I'm very doubtful that this is an area where ZOS can do much.

    It's a good idea and it could be fun. I just put it in the category of "Maybe after ZOS fixes Cyrodiil performance", which will probably never happen.

    I remember mounted combat in Archeage being only used to chase people down. In games where mounted combat is actually advantageous it's almost downright OP without weapons like Billhooks to pull them off their mount. And if the horse rider can couch their weapon.... yeah, we have enough nerf threads as is and I don't want such a system being as abysmally weak as Archeage.

    True, it's funny how it was announced before being fully tested... But it's exception. It is exception, right?

    Those 2 person mounts could have a PvP content to go with their release - Simple chariot tracks for 2v2v2 races. Spectator betting could be a gold sink also. Driver manages health and stamina of the mount, passenger could be ranged or melee (if you pull up close to the opponent).

    There are so many mistakes to learn from Battlegrounds, they could take away the best features to implement and reduce the populations of the other PvP content. A special instance could bypass the speed hacking pitfall.

    Hmmm.... you've changed my mind now lol. Yes, Anti-Cavalry Caltrops + Spear for an anti-cavalry build.... that could work.
