It's Time To Buff Dro'Zakar's Claws

Friends, the time has come to restore this set to its intended glory.

For reference:

2 items: Adds 1487 Physical Penetration
3 items: Adds 833 Weapon Critical
4 items: Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
5 items: For every bleed effect you have on an enemy, increase your Weapon Damage by 133 against them.

When it debuted on the PTS back during Scalebreaker, I was elated. At long last, here was a set that would finally enable a DW/2H setup and not sacrifice loads of DPS in the process.

Back then, it gave 200 Weapon Damage per Bleed on an enemy and testing revealed that it was possible to keep up about ~2.5 Bleeds at any given time, with a theoretical maximum of 5 that were available (DW Bleed, 2H Bleed, Carve, Rending Slashes, Rend) from abilities.

Then, as so often happens, somebody on PTS used Savage Werewolf to add a 6th potential Bleed and then the wails for nerfing Dro'Zakar began. Sure enough, a mighty 34% nerf came down, smiting poor Dro'Zakar into the dustbin of ESO set history, never to be used for anything ever again.

To add insult to injury, the very next DLC gave us New Moon Acolyte which bestowed original Dro'Zakar's average Weapon Damage with 100% uptime, without any need to tailor your build or use any effort at all in order to maintain the damage.

But it doesn't have to end this way. Together, we can save Dro'Zakar. Even if the set is never fully restored, increasing the damage to 150-175 per Bleed would go a LONG way toward moving this currently unused set into the "Actually Viable For Some Builds" bin along with Tzogvin and friends. Let's save Dro'Zakar!

yeah would be nice...i always liked the idea of this set...but well...do sets ever get buffed?
and with greymoor coming they want everyone to buy the chapter to get the overpowered new trial sets...

I'm hopeful that maybe we can get it looked at as part of one of these updates. They seem to be doing them in small chunks, so it should happen one day or another.

Good point about selling the new trial hotness sets but I don't think that Dro'Zakar would ever compete directly with the meta sets since the Bow backbar is so ingrained for stamDPS.

This set might get a new look from players if the Maelstrom 2H ever got buffed to the level of bow though.

Kinda the entire problem with NMA's existence is that now so many other sets that were FAR harder to obtain are now suddenly 100% unusable garbage; like not even arguable from any DPS parse perspective.
And yet we haven't seen any of these sets brought up to an even usable standard where NMA doesn't outparse them by 30%+ of the potential DPS despite their conditions being far harder to meet than NMA.

But yeah pretty much just please freaking buff old sets if we are going to have a craftable one like NMA it's actually insane how bad these sets are in comparison for a measly 5% cost increase that "justifies" NMA's stats.

The life and death of good sets in ESO in a nutshell.

This is why some complaining players should be ignored. Just because a couple players are making an OP build with it doesn't mean it should be ruined for everyone. Those players making OP builds will always use OP builds. Nerfing this fixed nothing.

Strongly agree, on the pts it was near pve meta, maybe ZOS didn't want that, but they shouldn't have dumstered it so hard. 35% down from "almost meta" is insane.

If you put effort into building around this set it will often still under perform against static sets which require no (or much less specific) procs.

Another dark day for this set.

Weapon Damage per Bleed effect reduced again from 133 to 103 - that's a 29% nerf.

Bleeds have also been eliminated from both Dual Wield and Two-Handed passives, which reduces the total available Bleeds from 8 to 6.

In exchange, we get a token 129 Weapon Damage added to the 5-piece.

I didn't think that it was possible for this set to get worse but it somehow did.

This set is still shrouded in darkness but there is a small reason for joy today.

Trap Beast is getting changed into a Bleed skill, adding one more Bleed stack that can reliably be applied to enemies.

Of course, we're still one source behind after eliminating the Bleeds from 1H and 2H Axes in the last patch.

Let's hope that we can get another one added for next patch!

It won't be buffed for the same reason Blood drinker was nerfed.

Was this set ever used? I always figured it was DOA when it first premiered, even though forum people kept mentioning it looked too OP

    Pretty much spot-on.

As happens every PTS (see also: Drake's Rush) salty PvP'ers always end up calling down the pre-emptive nerf strike on at least one promising set, ruining it for everyone.

Dro'Zakar's has been so bad for so long though that perhaps now it's headed in the opposite direction. With a few more reliable Bleed effects added to the game (low-hanging fruit would be a Bleed DoT monster set), the set could end up back in conversations about semi-viable off-meta sets.

    Update:

Today's patch notes state that Carve now stacks 3 times upon a target. I was initially excited, but upon testing this on the PTS I determined that these extra stacks do NOT count toward Dro'Zakar's 5-piece bonus.

The silver lining though is that the Bleed Damage status effect that was created last patch called Hemorrhage actually DOES count for the purposes of Dro'Zakar.

So that increases the total number of sources that are available to the set by one, back up to 8 - and 824 Weapon Damage.
