I'm on PS4 and not sure how to tell companion level. In Overview I see an XP bar, but don't see a number level anywhere. Said at one point I leveled up the companion but don't see it.

You can see the level on the lower right.

On PC, it shows the level before the companion name when you look at them in-game.

Not in the menu or dialog, just look at them standing next to you ...

PS: That also works with other player's companions

Thanks for posting this because I hadn’t noticed it anywhere before either.

I tried to pay more attention today but I don’t think I can see the companion’s level just by looking at them on PS4..

I think it was only in the skills menu.

Also, sometimes I can see an icon for Mirri and sometimes not. I think it works until someone else with a companion comes along, and then it disappears.

She also appears briefly in her undies when summoned so I hope that will be fixed for us soon because I think it was fixed for PC.

No looks like on the PS4 have to go into the Companion's Menu and then the Overview and it is in the lower right hand corner labeled Combat Level. Tried looking at other people's companions and it doesn't show any level and can't click on it and go into their menu either. I guess with the sheer amount of data per player and character, the ESO servers have a hard time keeping up sometimes, that makes for some interesting and often irritating glitches, but haven't had that happen to my Mirri yet.
