An alliance change would cost me $40? 😱

For the people who keep saying, "Just create a new character"... so the HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of hours put into a character doesn't matter? So to you, time isn't money? Also, having to redo all Skyshards, guild skill lines, mount upgrades, etc... when you add all of it up, it is MUCH cheaper to buy the Alliance change than spend all the extra time and money investing in an identical 'new' character.

Honestly, I just created a new character and after spending the Crowns for all the Skyshards, mount upgrades, and a couple skill lines... I dropped about $300 in total... but still have to run all the quests again. So in reality, $40 is nothing compared to starting over with a new character, especially for PVE.

The hours I've spent playing this game were fun. I don't feel all that time will be lost if I don't play my main any longer. I started a 2nd account so I can do the quests again in the order I did on my very first character. Has been a blast so far.

I see the alliance change token and buying skill lines, skyshards and other stuff as the same thing. Skipping playing the game. Part of the fun of a new character is getting that character leveled up and ready to go. The alliance change isn't quite as bad as purchasing skills and the like because you did at least play that character.

and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

This sentiment is beyond infuriating. People have been subjected to predatory monetization systems for so long that paying exorbitant amounts of money for small services and cosmetics is considered the "fair" and reasonable.

Now, if you could earn the alliance token any other way, I'd shut up right now. However a number of almost essential services, i.e. racechange, appearance change, etc. basically force every player to spend an enormous amount of money on the game if they want to enjoy a small amount of QoL.

It's only infuriating if you don't care what alliance your character is. Now, should there be a way to swap alliances in game? Yes. I think you should get a one-time change option if your character has finished Cadwell's Gold and Silver.

BUT, here you run against the problem the OP is having: They don't own Any Race/Any Alliance, so they can't switch to a a different alliance with a race that doesn't belong there. So I'm not sure ow they would work around that.

Same goes for guild upgrades, here ZOS purposely created a problem (the grueling guild grind) and sells us the solution, however, you can at least get these benefits by lvling the guild skill lines.

This is a player problem. People that see their character as skill loadouts that need to be ready for endgame asap, rather than characters that will live through the game world and acquire these things as they go. I'm happy ZOS gave those people the option to pay and left the rest of us with the ability to grow our characters as we prefer.

I personally never changed the race of a character, they are who they are. I still have the 3 free race changes we got a while back when they did a passive overhaul.

Good luck finding a game company that don't wanna get paid or pay it's employees. It's not much diff than WoW cost like $30 to change factions. Most games you either stuck,or pay alot. And most long lasting games need income, the prices aren't bad since you not forced to sub monthly, jsut save 15$ every month in a saving account and watch it grow til you need something like alliance change token,or whatever. Or save it all year, and get your significant other something nice for putting up with you like I do,lol.

seriously? i would never consider alliance change but $40 is still ridiculous. what if i just wanted to change the only toon i had AD to another faction? like the only place alliance really matters is cyrodiil and(even though i enjoy it) its just not populated enough to be an issue

Not going to defend their pricing scheme, but I just don't buy crowns unless they are on sale and then buy the 21000 pack for $89.99, so that is .0042 per crown or $10.71 for an alliance change, even without the discount buying during a crown sale that is only $17.85. So though I do agree with you that is is pricey, it is not $40. I cannot even figure out where you got that number from. The token is 2500 crowns, not 5000.

Same.. I buy one crown pack when they are on sale. Mostly to support the devs. Going out, can easily cost that or more. BUT, the prices in the crown store are higher then they really should be.

i don't buy crowns period. almost everything is ridiculously priced. i mean, those that do, go for it, spend your money. but what you actually get for your money is pretty bad imo. that and poor support for trading gold for crowns is one of the worst things in this game. guild wars 2 does that part right.

don't get me wrong, some of these cosmetics are pretty nice but they aren't worth the monetary cost. i play the game how i like to play the game, when i got the gold for it, i'll happily trade gold for crowns but i think most games over price virtual items. the gf on the other hand will spend all her monies on everything cause she's a cosmetic impulsive freak :) i like my freak.

warframe is pretty bad but they give daily rewards that include up to 90% off their version of crowns so i will spend there the rare time. but i rather earn rewards playing the game and earning the currency than spending real money. if i wanted to spend money on an outfit, i'd go buy a real one.

oh i should note, i do get eso+ so i'll get the odd stuffs here and there with the sub. at least that's a decent bargain.

to each their own, that's how i work.

and that is really only about $25 when the crowns are on sale. I agree it should not be easy/cheap to change alliances. 1-2k crowns is basically nothing to someone who subscribes as they get 1600 each month.

I can understand some thinking it is not fair because they would not want to pay that much yet would like to obtain it. That is normal.

Firstly, why not? Seriously, people defect.

Secondly, sure, you can make it not easy in other ways than cashing in on it. As is, the very rich can change alliances more often than I change underware, while the poor players cannot. Not exactly fair, is it now.

pffft, they want $25 to simply change a characters name, even though most people see our PSN name as the main ID and the character name is just a tiny line of text in comparison. It should be more akin to the price of an appearance change at 1000 tokens.
At least changing alliance or race actually effects gameplay. Charging so much for character name changes is really gouging us.

It’s funny when people start realizing how much things actually cost in this game, and other games too! I can’t see a reason why a house in this game costs 13k crowns - more than the game itself when converted into USD.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I would go buy everything in that store if it were cheaper. Motifs and houses especially, should be 10% of what they cost now. Do not buy guys. It’s not about supporting the devs, this game is well funded. It’s about countering this current in gaming culture.

I disagree that motifs should be cheaper, at least if they are available in game. Getting things in game should always be the preferred option for these things.

The houses could be cheaper, particularly if they are crown exclusives, but there are plenty of houses you can get with gold, which, again, should be the preferred method IMO. But some people have more money than sense.

These responses are ridiculous. I could maybe understand paying 1k crowns for 10 alliance change tokens, but 1 for 2.5k? Its a completely irrelevant change. Worried it will affect campaigns? Only allow alliance changes at the end of campaigns or for 500k AP for immediate change with token.

    Expensive store is expensive. 😐

A lot of items would seem "fair" if the prices were halved.

The outrage might be justified if a player had only one character slot.

In the base, original game, you get eight. There are three alliances. Playing with friends you didn't bother to coordinate with ahead of time is as easy as making an alt. The original Cadwell's Silver and Gold happened because so many people were upset they couldn't do all the content with a single character. Then One Tameriel took away all the barriers so everyone can go everywhere any time and do all the things in any order. The only place faction and Alliance matters anymore is PvP in Cyrodiil. If you and a group of friends decide to go to war, figuring out which side you're fighting on ahead of time is sort of common sense.

Many people who've been playing for an extended period have made alts for different classes and builds anyway. Why would they keep putting them in the same alliance?

The reason... because I feel Queen Ayrenn is the best choice for Tamriel... and I know the quests like the back of my hand and can go through them quickly and efficiently on a new character... and they're fun and it feels like you are appreciated more by everyone. The other alliance MSQ's can be quite drab and boring (EP)... or dark and depressing (DC). So I prefer to go through the MSQ in AD because it's fun, bright and sunny in most zones which also makes it a bit more enjoyable.

But I don't PVP... so Cyrodiil doesn't matter to me.

(...) I'm shocked to find out it would cost me $40 just to change the character's alliance? (...)
If you think that's expensive, it's better not to check those houses which can cost $100 or even more...
