A question?

I spent several years keeping a journal for one of my characters, detailing, in character, his adventures. However, the USB stick it was saved on was lost, and the whole thing, more than 300 pages, was lost.

I have had the thought of recreating it, but I simply can't remember everything that happened in the order that it happened. Someone suggested I might be able to get some sense of timing from looking at the dates on my accolades. This brings me to the quesiton:

Is there a way to export the accolade list and dates to a text file? I could then put it in a spreadsheet and sort them by date.

Accolades? Is that a console thing or just a different word for Achievements? I don't know about an export-to-text function - I'd bet that would have to be done by CS, unless there happens to be an addon somewhere (in which case obviously you'd have to be on PC to utilize it....)

Ya, Achievements. I play so many different games, and they all use different words for the essentially the same thing.

Gotcha! Well, about the only thing I can think of is ask CS if there's some way they can export to a text file for you; or post on the ESOUI forum to ask if there's a possibility of an addon, if you're on PC.

ESO Database might be able to Cull the List you have.

Also, if you were using something like MS Word, there is a chance it saved a copy of your file somewhere for Document Recovery purposes.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    No, the file was lost.

I had it on my laptop and a backup on the USB. I had just bought myself a new laptop (traded in the old one), and plugged the stick with the backup on it into the new laptop to transfer the file over to it... and the USB just flat out stopped working. NOTHING could be recovered. I lost several years worth of work on the journal, but also all my thesis work, three short stories and a novel I'd started.

The thesis work was also on my home PC, so there was nothing serious lost there, and the stories and novel weren't very far along, so I can recreate those... but losing that journal stung.

Can't help with the lost document I don't think, but from one writer to another — been using Wavemaker myself and I haven't looked back. I've also been using it to track characters through various games individually as well and it uses Google Drive as a means to sync it's database (though you can choose to save locally). Otherwise, I just use Google Docs because I've had way too many local word editors eat my documents.

I have to say.... I've been very strict about backups since I had a major crash about 10 years ago. If I hadn't had the majority of the fantasy series (been writing it since 1978) that went down the drain in that crash backed up on three removable drives (file stored on each of the drives and placed in: safe deposit box at main bank; safe deposit box at my own (business) bank; and one in a fireproof safe in the basement - yes yes I'm paranoid so I do redundant upon redundant etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam) as well as having the original handwritten thousand pages or so in another safe elsewhere....

I'd have had heart failure. And since I'm not willing to mess up my health....

I doubt I'm ever going to publish this series - but my daughter will get it to do whatever with after I'm dead. I.... just can't even think about dealing with the sort of public exposure authors go through. I'm a hermit.... two extra people in a room stresses me to the point of no return....

I keep my raw photos on three separate external hard drives. I keep photos I've edited on the one I keep in my office. Sometimes I get lazy about keeping all three current then read something like what happened in the opening post and get good about it again.

After reading the comments so far... has no one heard of cloud storage? I keep a back up of important files on my PC, USB or SD card storage, and cloud storage. Before cloud storage was a thing i use to have email accounts that i would send files to that i wanted to keep and then i would save them in that email. Cloud storage is one of the best backups because they have an insane level of redundancy.
