This is only partially true. Fact, an organized group can easily get around such "obstacles" but mindless zergs usually move in the straightest line to the target, when you take away such an opportunity they usually either stop and fight on such borders or look for another easy target, so however the destruction of a bridge or milegate can have a significant impact.
A more annoying injustice is that AD is the only one who can't cut off the other alliance and still be able to pass due to the fact that the gates on the left side of the map "belong" to DC and the stairs are on their side, while the bridge when destroyed cuts off both sides. It seems like a triviality but sometimes it has a real impact on gameplay dynamics.

That's true but Ebonheart got stuck with an "outpost" that's closer to our gate keep then our front line keep. And a DC outpost that's like a 60 second ride from our other gate keep.
