Completely lost -- have no idea where I am in Tamriel

Graygirl
Graygirl
I was in Mournhold doing a Fighter's Guild quest when somehow I ended up going through a portal to some other area of Tamriel and I have no idea where I am and how to get back to Mournhold. With the quest selected, I cannot a find ay arrows indicating a ship, or a portal, or anything.

The problem is that the maps are not labelled. The individual places within the maps are labelled, but the overall large province/area you are in does not appear on the map, so I have NO idea where I am and how to get back.

Can someone please give me some pointers on this, because I am constantly getting lost and it's really frustrating. I can't take on any more quests, so I absolutely have to get back to Mournhold and finish the ones I have there -- but I have no idea where I am now and where i have to go.

If you open your map, right click to zoom back out until you can see the whole continent. You will be marked with an arrow on the map. It's possible you're in an area you've never been to, so you may not be able to readily identify it, but with the continent displayed, you should be able to pick a wayshrine to go where you want.

The fighters and mages guilds quests take you to instances outside of the normal map. In the case of the fighters guild, you are sent to the Earth Forge via portal iirc, but should be able to wayshrine out using the method mentioned above if you change your mind about doing the quest right now. Just keep in mind it may be tedious to get back to that instance if you went there late in the quest that took you there.

Also, if you're in any guilds or have anyone online on your friends list, you can right click their name and travel to them.

Ask in chat for help. There are those that are willing and able to help new players. They'll explain the basics, show you around and help you activate a couple of way-shrines where you need to go (providing they have the way-shrines). Take your time... don't try to learn everything at once and enjoy :)

You can also travel from wherever you are either to a wayshrine such as Mournhold for a small amount of gold, or free to your home(s). The key, however, is that you may not know that right-clicking on the map of where you are will zoom you out to the next map layer and that will - possibly after another right-click - show you which zone/part of the world you're in. Once you understand how the map and travel work there is no possible way to get lost. Don't hesitate to ask here if that is still something you need a bit more help on.

Desperate times... Open your map, pick another zone, teleport to Wayshrine if there are no other options like another person or your own home (or the free inn they give you). If you haven't picked up the free inn, you should really do that, they are "free" to port to at any time.

Mournhold specifically is in Deshaan, which is in Morrowind - south of Stonefalls and Vvardenfell but north of Shadowfen.
It is in the east of Tamriel.
You can get back by either recalling to a discovered Wayshrine by clicking on it and paying a small fee or by using a Wayshrine you are already at and teleporting from there to any other Wayshrine you have discovered. If you are broke you can teleport to a friend which will get you to the nearest Wayshrine for free, from which you can then teleport to where you actually wanted to get to.

For the Fighters and Mages instances, just go to the end. They are quite linear, and once you kill or do what you are supposed to, you either get sent back or there is a portal to use.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You could also port on a guild member if you are in one.

It's irritating, this. It used to give you the name of the zone above the map and the name of whatever you were pointing at in the panel on the right. They changed it a while back so both tell you what you're pointing at because that's apparently better.
