question on questing

Darkspecialist
if i made a 3 character one from each faction and did all the quests i came around..by the time i got to the last xpac last dlc would i have done about the same number of quests for all three characters making different choices and answering some quests differently?

i have one toon i want to do everything on and people say questing order doesnt matter im just wondering if thats actually true? can i do the side quests starting at any random point and not really miss out out on anything per each zone?

and one more question..during the main story theres a quest where you have to choose who to kill..usually i take the older fella..if i took like lyris or any other companion..does that npc actually stop showing up in the rest of the game?

    1. Questing Order does and doesn't matter. You won't be railroaded by the game into any particular order anymore, but you may unlock additional dialogue for recurring NPCs by doing the quests in chronological order of release. Additional, some zone stories and story arcs only make sense in their original chronological order. For example, if you try to do the AD zones backwards, you'll be dreadfully confused.

Basically, if you want everything to make sense, do the quests in chronological order on release. If you don't mind glossing over some points of confusion, then do whatever you like. Everything will be explained eventually as you work your way through the content.

    2. The vast majority of your quest choices are inconsequential. The only way to miss out on large numbers of quests is to refuse to join a faction, such as roleplaying that a "good" character will not join the Dark Brotherhood.

    3. Thanks to ZOS, the sacrifice at the end of the Main Quest is now pointless. If you sacrifice Lyris or Sai Sahan, they return for Dragonhold and Greymoor respectively.

Side quests won't cut you off from doing the zone storylines or anything else, and vice versa, so you can do them in whatever order you want. But if you do them in the order they were intended to be done, i.e. vanilla zones first, then DLC, a few things will make more sense in that order. There have been weird incidents where you run into someone who's already dead if you did things backward somewhere.

You can sacrifice whoever you want and it won't matter. They kind of handwave it all later anyway. I sacrifice Lyris with almost every toon and yet she still comes back to annoy me in Greymoor, damn it.

As those before me have said, if you want certain dialogue options, chronological is best way to go. Otherwise, nothing else matters. If you never care for what they say, or never care for what they know, they’ll somehow knooooooww.
