Companion kicked open world 3 man group

Crown + his companion
Me + mine

Crown invited a person and it kicked my companion.
This was open world, when the limit should have been 12.

So we fought a world boss with 3 people and 1 companion.
That seems to be broken.

I'm kicking myself that I can't find where I read it, but I read in notes somewhere that companions can't be summoned if the group is 4+ and they can only be summoned up to 4 group members.

Although there also seems to be a bug where companions in Trials can share the 12 slot, so who knows.

Haven't been able to test for myself yet

We found this out the hard way on Saturday. We did a small guild event to work on their Guild skill lines. We ended up just grouping together and disbanding before quest turn ins.

I get and like that ESO is so solo friendly, but this kind of thing almost actively encourages people to solo/duo INSTEAD of grouping up with more of your pals. Side note but I feel the way XP is handled does the same thing.

As far as companions making things easier, any single one of us could have carried the rest of the group through any of it. We are not even tryhards. Public dungeons, delves, dark anchors and most overland content is all trivial content for a lot of people.

Feel like this has to do with the small vs large group mechanic ingame. In order to make a group a large group the group leader has to invite someone to push it over the 4 person cap. Once done then the group size is no longer limited to 4 and additional companions can be summoned.... I think.

I think we tried that on Saturday, but I don't remember exactly.

But yesterday, 2 of my guildies and I grouped, and in a delve or in the overworld, only one of the companions was summoned.

We went to Cloudrest and all 3 companions showed up.

So I feel like this is a bug and you should be able to summon companions in the overworld while in a group.

I agree that this is a bug. We had a three man group and one companion and another one was unable to be summoned.

Would be nice to know from @ZOS_GinaBruno if this is intended behavior or not.

I confirmed this happened for me again. I had three players, and only one was able to have their companion out in the overland. However we were in Rockgrove and 1 of the guys dropped at the end, and one of the players companions auto-appeared.

Which of these behaviors is correct and which is the bug?

Also experiencing this bug on PC/NA. The patch notes say that they companions should count towards the player limit for the zone, which is meant to be 12 in the Overland per the 7.0.5 patch notes.

    "General
Reduced player group size limitations from a global maximum of 24 to 12 in all activities, rather than only in Cyrodiil and Trials, to aid in performance."

This is a known issue, so it's not intended. Check the Blackwood patch notes.

Can you identify the known issue posting? I was only able to find one remark about it and it seems they have this as intentional:
    Companions
You are not currently able to summon Companions into groups that have 4 or more players + Companions present while in the overland or in public dungeons. This means a group of 2 players can each have a Companion, a group of 3 players can only have 1 total Companion and groups of 4 or more will not be able to have any Companions in these areas.

That note you cited is found under the section called “Known Issues,” which is where they put bugs they know about and intend to address in the future.

I didn't even notice the header. Thank you for pointing that out in a non abusive way as to not make me feel silly for missing that in the first place(no sarcasm)

I tend to miss headers too, as my workplace blocks the pictures and the headers are images only. They can't even be found with a ctrl+F, as I think the alternate text might be missing.

I'm glad they are aware of it, but I hope they fix it quickly.

It's a lot more fun leveling companions when you are in a group, and right now we have to choose between playing with friends or leveling companions.
