cp nerf punished hard workers and rewarded slackers

since January when I brought the game i have worked really hard on my cp level getting myself from level 1 up to cp 800.

so when I logged in to see I had been given back some cp i was like "oh that's cool"
BUT then I saw that not only had the number of cp points needed on certain things been half but so had the bonus they give! I blew a fuse!

i was ready to uninstall the game at that point but then I realized that you had done me a favor!
that favor being I no longer need to pay real money buying xp scrolls from the crown store!
so yeah thanks you've just saved me £30 a month on scrolls

tbh I think the devs really messed up on this one!
and they didn't need too!

anyway, what do they need to do to fix it!

for me that answer is either:
put the passive bonuses back to where they were while keeping the now reduced number of cp to get there the same
or
double the caps on the slotables!

basically, you've taken 500 health (not to mention stam and mag) of all my characters with the passive change and if go in the the slottable the first 20 points in that are only making up the loss!

this change was all negative with no positive and worse it feels like your slapping your hard working players who have spent time grinding levels and buying scrolls in the face! while rewarding those players who don't or won't put in the work to level!

People complained the ceiling was too high so zos did something about it and cut everything down. Now they eat their words and live with it.

It's really not about punishing those with a lot of hard work. You can have super high CP simply for playing a long time, regardless of any intention.

It's a nerf to overall player power, as the devs have been saying they'd do for months and months now (quietly). As they've been steadily reducing crit chance as well -- until sales and marketing told them to throw in a new mythic to Blackwood.

It seems tone deaf of ZoS to suggest they lowered CP caps "in response to feedback" -- yes there was feedback that too many CP were "required" in the last patch.

But the solution taken of across the board halving of passives wasn't purely to address "too many CP required". It coincidentally reduces the "required" CP by erasing the power level.

The ongoing intent is to bring down player damage at the top end while (magically?) not lowering at the bottom end.

I have just over 1900 CP. None of it was hard work. Every one of those CP was gained by sitting on my ass playing a video game. My actual life is not at all impacted when changes are made to make the game more inclusive and have a less steep climb for new players. I’d guess what when you strip away the hyperbole, the same is true for you.

I don't necessarily disagree with your statement, but I would point out the odd place that I am now left.
I am right at 1,500 cp and now have nothing to really work for.
All my vertical progression was taken away.
I can afford all passives (even the unnecessary ones) and have 4 maxed slotables.
Where I was enjoying the urge to play my daily BGs or dungeon, now there isn't really a need.

I do think they're aim was a little high to begin with, but now there's nothing to aim for other than perfecting builds and rotations, which is the place I was in almost a year before they made the cp changes.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but it was nice to have something to do that felt like progression.

I do agree with this. There’s no sense of progression, and the new CP system is all but useless over 1500-ish cp. I have hundreds of unspent blue and red points because everything left is a slottable I’ll never use.

But in the old cp system I had almost 1000 (at the time) unused points and there was a lot less variety for specific builds, so I still count the new system as a net win, as underwhelming as it is.

I am a slacker, took me over 2 years to get to 810cp.

But then I'm 1560cp now and can afford all the passives, so I can't complain and can continue to slack off.

Yep, I'm aware. That doesn't mean people who spend X amount of years in an MMO shouldn't get rewarded for it. Vet rewards used to be a thing, then they got rid of that system. Just like players who develop a skill in game (High PVE DPS, High MMR PVP, etc) should be rewarded for doing it over players who choose to not develop those same skills.

People complained the ceiling was too high so zos did something about it and cut everything down. Now they eat their words and live with it.

Except that the ceiling is actually higher when you farm the new mythic item and change up your CP slottables. The new slotables benefit the skill players that are able to LA weave as well. More separation between the floor and ceiling.

So what will happen is they will nerf the pants and the new sets out of rock grove and drop endgame players back to where they were last patch. The net result will still be larger separation of floor and ceiling, just by not as big a margin as it is now.

Change for the sake of change, no real balance. May as well just enjoy the game.

    so, i play mostly pvp...
i must "work out" every time before i engage in combat with an other player if my stats are really that what i think, i think about the given information my armour has... but sometimes...sic...i does not have the effect i want to have... and it is random....it is an a

but pvp was my most fun to get out of this game...

so atm it is no fun at all..

so, if i go with my bow/2hd i can´t even shoot someone who stands in a 22 degree to me...my tooltip says 42m, it feels like 28....he stand literally under me....i got an message, target out of reach

same with crushing shocj... tool says 35m but it only works UNDER 28 m...

The rhetoric robs the points of credibility because it is hyperbole. Its also unnecessarily decisive because draws lines between "us" and "them", so you're already making people unsympathetic by calling them lazy.

The crux of the matter is that the CP system overhaul is unsatisfying when you've set up this expectation that putting in time to some activity will give you predictable benefits. Its reasonable to expect this, because a lot of the game is set up with the expectation that you can earn things if you put in some effort, whether it be time developing skill, mindless grind, or whatever, at the expense of doing something else. The developers themselves are talking about "pain and reward" aspects of their game within the framework of the genre, so they are deliberately setting that up.

CP 1.0 was a very short-sighted system. It had significant problems, and it needed to be changed. One of the big issues was its role in widening the gap in power between newer and older players, which isn't desirable because it fragments the population and makes it daunting for newer players. No one wants that.

But the solution to strip away what you gave people under the expectation of rewards for commitment, by making huge amounts of what they earned in game redundant (useless, but necessary passives), deception (back-shifting values or droprates so that the new passives now only let you tread water), or false "horizontal progression" (empty because respeccing has always been trivial), and ultimately just straight up taking back what you gave people was never going to be an amazing outcome for a good number of your players.

Yes, this isn't some real-world shattering, crying-in-the-streets thing, and its right to call out hyperbole. But not recognising the fundamental importance in RPGs of a sense of progression, and that a major, and deliberate drive in these games is earning rewards vs. effort, you're either being disengenious or failing to understand one of the major psychological draws of gaming.

And celebrating the outcome as some sort of snivelling malicious compliance on ZOS's part seems pretty short-sited if you ever have, or ever will use the forums to express your thoughts on the way the game develops.

I think that part of the problem is people see the cp gain as the goal to work towards and not the completion of content.

Your goal in the game should be to complete the content. Not really to reach some percieved necessary cp level. Cp isn't the content it's just something to help with the content.

I have all the cp slots filled. The ones to put on the champion bar. I have every non slotted cp filled that I needed to fill. Now I’m sitting with a large amount of CP unused. How does that improve the quality of my playing experience ? What does it do for my progression ? It doesn’t. This was poorly planned from the beginning and the player base is paying the price.

It allows you to freely swap out slottables as needed. And now you can fill out even more and tailor your cp to the fight you are prepping for fairly quickly. That's the whole point of the slottables, choice in build set up and swapping.
