Lost Settings on Windows PC: [Solved]

Lost ability to change ESO settings on PC with Windows 10. Did "Repair" twice, did not fix problem.

Settings worked earlier today. When I logged-on again, ESO had reset: got the cinematic, as well as the agreement screens (Terms of Service, Code of Conduct, Privacy Notice). At the Character log-in screen, under Settings I now only have Video, Audio, and Account. I do NOT have options to change Setting for: Gameplay, Camera, Interface, Nameplates, Social, Combat, Addons, or Controls. Settings are normal when I log-in to my account on a different computer. Also, had my sibling log-on to my computer: they, also, only had Video, Audio, and Account settings. Also had loss of Settings on EU server. So the problem must be the ESO on this one computer, not an account problem. I still have all Settings on PTS server, and the PTS game files are in a different directory from the "live" files.

Is there any way to fix this problem and get all Settings back? "Repair" failed. Please help.

It's always been like this. Settings on character selection have only video, audio and account entries (screenshot in spoiler):

The rest of settings (controls, camera etc) is not account-wide - it's stored on ESO servers per character (you won't see them in your UserSettings.txt file). That's why you can't access them on character selection screen:

Big Thanks. Never noticed that before, because I guess I never looked at Settings from character log-in screen before. I did this time because of the problems encountered when game restarted. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Much appreciated.

Settings getting reset is usually caused by your User Settings file getting corrupted or deleted, forcing the game to create a new one. The new one will have all of the default settings. These settings are client side, which means they are stored only on your computer. Repairing won’t fix it, as you’ve learned, and zos can’t restore something that exists only on your PC. They can only restore the defaults, which is what was done.

It also sometimes happens (you can blame Microsoft for this one) that a Windows or OneDrive update changes the security on your document folders, and prevents the game from writing updates to your settings and saved variables. This means that your settings won’t be saved, and often causes the game to crash as your addons try to write updates and are unable to.

I recommend everyone make a backup copy of their ESO settings and saved variables before each big game update, in addition to backing up their data before windows updates, and checking document permissions after updating.

There’s nothing you can do from here except restore from a saved copy of your settings gs if you have one, or update your settings manually.
