Each toon has to do the quest to gain access to the companion.
Companion level is account wide, but the rapport is character specific.

Gear and skills are also account wide

Level and skills are acct wide.

Gear and Rapport are toon specific.

Each toon will have to individually do initial quest to unlock each companion.

Gear is account wide, Just put what gear you're not using on the companion into the bank and then another character can grab it for their companion.

I think they were referring to gear that is on each companion, at the time.

The gear is tradable of course, so what you're saying is true also.

But say, if Mirri is using a staff with my necro. She could be using dual wield daggers with my sorc, etc. and that would remain the course until I changed it on either respectively.

Actually it makes perfect sense. Each character has different needs from a support companion. One might need a tanky supporterand another might need a healer. I'm glad to hear I don't have to set up the companion with the right gear every time I change my characters.

The onyl thing what is per character is rapport and mount but that's about it.

Well... Then that sux because now for every toon that has a separate need from the previous toon, each is going to have to carry the gear/wep setup in their inventory, and equip them each time they want to use them.

So every toon will need to have at least ten empty slots to "carry their unique role gear/weapon burdens" and you'll have to undress and unarm the companion before logging over to a new toon. And then "re-dress and re-arm" them into their new loadout once you log over.

Dumb.

I guess it wont really matter down the line when there's a %$#*-ton of companions available and we can just settle on a separate "unique" companion to handle a particular role for each toon.

But until then....
