Changes to AoE Cap

So the initial response from PTS is that every aoe ability has been changed to a 6 target cap. I cannot express how absolutely disgusted I am by this change. GW2 tactical game play was effectively destroyed because of this kind of cap. Stacking should never be rewarded and that is exactly what is happening, before even giving players a chance to learn to adjust from the bad habits they picked up in other games.

Not to say all abilities should hit everything, but blanked cap on number of targets is just outright stupid.

    Wat wat wat wat wat? *reads 1.1 patch notes again* Oh ***... Ok, are certain it's all AoE abilities and not just some broken ones? This is game changing, this will make the game go the same way GW2 is in accords to stacking for zerg fighting.

    Going from the PTS crowd and their posts, yes it is all. I am guessing also when they limit aoe heals to 6 people they wont bother to prioritize your own group.

    One would think that with all the raw data from other MMOs, something as common as AOEs, they would have foreseen this as being an issue, and taken measures before the end of beta...

    Hmmm, disappointed I am.

    ZOS, I think they should be looking to the other games, and remembering their experiences which may help them with future issues before they become issues.

    Don't get me wrong, I hope TESO does well and ZOS and Bethesda treats us even better, I did drop a 6 month sub so I am in it for $70 more bucks.

    I guess they didn't want the Bright Wizards to be able to melt entire groups of people

    I can't say anything, I was one of the healers in our bomb group.

    You have to laugh though.

    People hate bomb groups ... when they die to them. When they are on the side with the winning bombs, they love them.

    I don't like this change at all. An AREA of effect skill should affect an AREA and whatever is in that area, NOT a set number of targets. This is going to create larger zergs, and more of them. The worst part about it is that the smaller, more organized groups will no longer be able to take out the mindless auto attack blob.

    Seems likeits comes to an end of the easy AoE bombing in cyrodiil.
    Sneaking inside a castle and killing 30+ people with only a handfull people.

    Good decision, the fix was needed.

    @moXrox making the game mindless because of a broken vamp ultimate doesnt make any sense at all, and frankly if 30+ people are dying to a handful they are not playing the game properly. Understandable because the game is still new, way to many GW2 folks thinking stacking is smart, but that will change. Even in the last week the effectiveness of the vamp + DK + Emperor combo is far less effective as folks realized what they needed to do.

    This change makes PvP less intelligent, less tactical and rewards balling up and ignoring the importance of positioning and movement.

    It seems strange to me that restricting how much AE hits is the 'mindless' gameplay, according to some. It'd be even more hilarious if they added in friendly fire :P

    I for one would welcome that. I can remember playing on persistant worlds in the Original NWN where that was enabled.

    I think Mages killed more of their team sometimes than they did bad guys

    On topic if they dont let the same AoE stack with another fine, otherwise all the Bright Wizards will be steam rolling groups

    A patch..that I can't hate on? Wow they..really want to fix this game. I'm pretty happy after seeing the patch notes.

    Will they also promise to never send us up against groups larger than 6 mobs in pve (includes mobs running to other groups to get help)?
    Because if not, i don't like this change.
