Why do companions walk right onto what I am trying to loot?

They are worse than my bear on my Warden character.
They run right to whatever I am trying to interact. Very annoying!
(PC obviously, though I bet it will be the same way on console next week.)

I like that Mirri stays nearby instead of 50 feet behind me, but looting stuff it's like:

Chest: *click*
Burial Ur-MIRRI *click*
