To a lot of people, this can look very strange. But I ask, please read this.
All because of the dialogue, where I have to confess to Eveli that I am a member of the Dark Brotherhood. And I hate this. I even thought about creating a new main character.
I have to explain that DB is one of the oldest DLCs and the question of whether it needs to be completed or not was not a question of any kind. Skillpoints were few then. And I decided that I can somehow roleplay this moment. I just recently got the latest achievement for spiderkith skin in CoS and decided to take advantage of it. Allegedly, Mephala, in revenge against the Dark Brotherhood, took possession of my mind and, with my help, secretly entered the Dark Brotherhood in order to reveal its secrets. Also, while going through the Dark Brotherhood, I never took off my mask. I also took vampirism. After I received all the achievements, I first cleared myself of vampirism, and then, at the statue of Auriel on the Gold Coast, I took off the skin and never put it on again. And my character seemed to wake up from a dream. A terrible dream. There was nothing. It is better to forget about it.
It was all in vain. The game continues to remind me that I am a member of the DB. First in Murkmire when I met Choixth. I had no other option but to answer her "Glory to Sithis!". I was very worried then. Then the assassin of the NPC in Markarth, who for some reason immediately recognized that I was a member of the DB. I was very worried then too. And now Eveli... Its just kill me...
I just can't go on. I've never been a big RP'er, but I'm a big fan of the Elder Scrolls and have always treated quests and stories with great care. Now I just can't keep playing.
For this, I ask, no, I beg ZoS! Please give the characters who are in the Dark Brotherhood an alternative line in this dialogue with Eveli. Just 2 answer options where one is without a DB membership, the other is with. I beg you, before it's too late to ask, as BW still have patches awaiting, please. In the meantime, alas, I cannot go on through the main quest.
P.S. Perhaps I should try to write to the support, with a simple gesture, remove the trigger of the DB member from my character.

Actually I rather the option to reveal that you are a dark brotherhood member was not there at all, Eveli does not need to know at all. If a dark brotherhood member reveal him/herself to a non member, then they failed as a member of the dark brotherhood completely or being a member of the thieves guild. All the player can say is "This is not how the Dark brotherhood operate" or something. And if one was a member of the dark brotherhood then he/she would recognize that the paper with the hand sign is fake. But that's how Zenimax wrote the story. They could have had that the dark brotherhood member (can't remember his name) that joins you in search of the waking flame. Recognize that the player, he/she are a member of DB but say it quietly to the player and then no more was needed to say.

Would be cool if that dark brotherhood guy becomes a follower/companion one day. If not well no worries.

I just don't know how to come to terms with it. I'm seriously considering creating a new main character right now. But, I've been playing it from the beginning for 7 years now. I already have 41800 achiv points.

If you are a completionist, this isn’t worth rerolling over. I also did the Dark Brotherhood story for the achievements and the Blade of Woe, but i headcanon it out of my story.

I'm so sorry, OP. I don't know why they can't give you an option to choose dialogue here instead of having forced dialogue. It just takes a player out of the moment; it's our characters after all. It's our story that we're making, so it's just a disconnect if we've got dialogue that doesn't necessarily reflect that.

Yeah I agree completely. No self respecting DB member would EVER just casually reveal themselves to an outsider. Like, they're a society of SECRET assassins.

What sort of secret assassin goes around bragging aloud that they're a secret assassin? Sounds like a wannabe imposter, not a real DB member. Too fake to be believable.

I also really disliked that conversation... it forced me to tell Eveli that my character is a DB member and no other options were present. She later becomes distrustful and yells at me about it a bit, too. I would have really liked the option to NOT tell her.

I would even argue it goes against once of the tenants of the Brotherhood, as declaring you are a member betrays one of its secrets. I believe there is even a lore book where someone interviews a Dark Brotherhood member or they write down something about their membership, and they declare they will be killed for having revealed anything. It also makes zero sense to just reveal that "Oh, by the way, I'm a secret assassin of a scary secret assassin organization, but you can *totally* still trust me even though I just admitted to you I'm basically a murderer for hire and worship Sithis. Haha. No problem, right?" What next? "Wanna see the Blade of Woe?"

I do wonder what the conversation would be like on a character that hasn't done any of the DB DLC.

Personally, I am not considering any part of admitting being a part of the DB as 'canon' for my character. You may choose to do the same.

Why would a member of the DB reveal their allegiance to anyone? It makes no sense that I’m a deadly assassin, but apparently lack the ability to lie to an acquaintance? At least allow us to remain silent or something.

It’s almost like ZOS forgot they are writing dialogue for an RPG... different choices should be available during conversations. Even if they have no impact on the narrative. The illusion of choice is better than none at all. Especially in this case

That would make a very poor assassin. And a very soon to be dead assassin too. I can't imagine anyone in that line of profession living that long if they have no ability to lie.

Pffft. Inb4 this turns out to all be a set up by ZOS to get the player to kill off Eveli. :D

That WOULD be quite a twist though. But it would still ultimately be shoehorning the player again into something extreme.

I think they missed out on a golden opportunity, given she's a fan of Vale, we could have intrigued and creeped her out with a classic DB routine.
"No, this is not the work of the brotherhood... That's not how they operate."
"Wait, how can you be sure it's not?"
    *Remain silent*
    "Uh..."

Instead we just blurt it out.

yeah... I actually missed that option. I mean, really, revealing to someone you're a member of a super secret assasin's guild would certainly mean she'd have to go. As in 'I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you' ;)

Well ... I read this dialogue in the pantry in full, but I will not complete the quest yet. Eveli promises in this dialogue that "We will come back to this conversation in the future." Anyone already completed the Black Wood main quest? Anyone can give a spoiler here about what will happen in the conversation that Eveli is talking about? Please.

What counts as joining the DB? I'm guessing it's getting the Blade of Woe?
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

I got the Blade of Woe but never progressed in the questline further (I'm pretty sure I abandoned the quest right away), it seems the game doesn't recognize me as a DB member since I didn't see that confession part of the dialogue.

So did I, but thinking of finishing the DB questline. I just got the blade of woe and nothing more but still I got the option to reveal to Eveli that Im a DB member. So maybe its a bug or its random for each player to reveal to Eveli.

If you continue to play there is one other thing that would also never happen
you would never reveal that a certain phrase is the key to opening a sanctuary door to an outsider, in this case to Eveli

Maybe they should have had you witness Eveli commit a murder so you would be free to offer her membership ;)

Now I'm wondering....if you used an alt toon to level up DB to max and then bought the skill line on a toon that never started the DB questline at all, would the game recognize you as a DB member? I'm assuming not, since I think it's the questline that triggers conversations and not the skill line...

Yeah. When the ONLY dialogue choice was to tell her that you are a DB member I was really taken aback. Seems like a very odd decision.

Also Eveli is an incredibly annoying character and I as the player, as well as my DB loving necromancer main, would never reveal membership to her. If only to avoid her frustrating incredulity.

Definitely a writing failure here. But I suppose every dialogue tree can't be a winner.

Well ... I sent a ticket to support. I was told the next day that ZoS cannot take away any progress. But I did not expect that there is such an opportunity.
Yes, it would probably be great to have the option to complete the quests for the location again. I forgot about it sometime.
Now it will be necessary to seriously reconsider my attitude towards the character and his story. It won't be easy and I really don't want it.

There is nothing to hide. This happens in the very first quest of the main BW story.

Useless DB and TG, wish I be able to kill or betray it's members after completing these DLCs.

P.S. Ilam even dare to threaten me that someday my name will appear in their contracts. When I heard that, I wished to instantly kill him and send his head to the sanctuary.

I personally avoided the whole DB questline in the gold coast on my main. I only went there to do any other non DB quest and to grab the skyshards. In TES V I always eliminated the DB (to get this quest, kill astrid 1st before killing anyone else in the house)

If you're looking for a head canon that will fix things, this is what you should do. Equip one of those mementos that shows daedric influence and your character resisting it.

Your curse with Mephala isn't actually completely cured. Whenever you hear an npc ask if you're a DB brotherhood member you feel compelled to say that you are and rejoin in doing crimes. But you are strong of mind and good of heart, so you resist this temptation and beat her back.

Your hero may have had a different outcome when Mephala's grasp was stronger, but things are different now. You have been cleansed and your have an iron will. You won't fall for it again even if you can't undo the past actions you participated in while under her dark grasp.

    Hopefully that helps!
