How To Heal Companions

I know silly question but I could not heal mine yesterday. I had Mirri and went up against Rada. She lasted until the last 30 seconds with a bow but none of my skills that should heal me and allies seem to help her. Can we not heal them? Thanks!

I haven't tested this, but if you're wearing the Ring of the Pale Order, does that apply to Companions as well? Maybe that's preventing them from receiving your heals?

I'm not wearing that ring on the character I'm tooling around with Bastian on, and he gets my Vigor heals just fine...

Which skills did you try? What class of healer?

I don't have that ring. I am a Necro and I was using Resistant Flesh.

"Sacrifice your own power to repair damaged flesh, healing you or an ally in front of you for 3600 Health but applying Minor Defile to yourself for 4 seconds, reducing your healing received and Health Recovery by 8%. You grant the target Spell and Physical Resistance equal to half the amount healed for 3 seconds."

You can use Psijic's [Mend spirit], it costs nothing so you can stand aside and constantly support your companion.

I was thinking of switching it out for Echoing Vigor. maybe that would heal her better.

Two that worked for me: Necrotic Orb and Ward Ally. After leveling the companion up to three or four, I stopped using Ward Ally. Except for Southern Elsweyr dragons, Bastian survived everything just fine. Granted, I only used him with stuff I can solo, but he handled delves and public dungeons (including Nchuthnkarst) just fine without dying.

    You’re welcome.

One thing I forgot was he did have one of his healing abilities slotted. Forget what it’s called, but something like lobs healing at either himself or you. Put that in the second skills slot for him.

That was all with his original gear. RNG is not favoring me for finding better companion gear.

Not having any problems healing Mirri or Bastion with normal healing skills from my magward and magplar, both class and resto staff skills.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

I had a LOT of weird lag last night (like hitting the logout and then sitting there for a minute or more with the game acting like nothing had happened), so that might have been the issue?

If people are complaining about survivability early on, I would suggest slotting mostly self-healing/self-defense skills until you get higher level and much better gear. I think one problem I've seen is that many players are solely slotting damage abilities, or a single self-heal, and then wondering why they die. Well, if you don't actively heal them yourself, then you can't expect them to survive without their own healing abilities slotted.

My main complaint is when they die with nothing BUT healing/survival skills slotted.

Granted, I'm referencing PTS testing I did two days ago (though I'm skeptical that anything's changed since then vs what's on Live right now) but here's my experience:

Mirri, nothing but skills that heal us on her bar, full purple Quickened gear to make cooldowns pretty much a non-issue: Still dies to simple mechanics or if even mildly beefy enemies focus on her for anything more than like 5 seconds.

Bastian, again stacking heals/survival skills on the bar, full set of heavy Reinforced (or whatever the Comp equivalent is called) armor: Dies in pretty much no time if I'm not going out of my way to keep him alive by healing or pulling aggro off him.

So if I need to heal my healer, and I need to draw aggro away from my tank, then what good are they? They're great when they're actually alive to help out with whatever's going on, but they're not alive when things get tough and they're needed most!

Now, I fully acknowledge that I might just be doing something egregiously wrong in setting them up somehow; I can't claim to be any kind of expert here. But if they require specialized knowledge that isn't available in the game itself to get them up to snuff for anything harder than a Delve or the weaker World Bosses, than I gotta say that's a pretty big letdown for me. I didn't expect us to duo vetHM Trials (or even veteran base game Dungeons, honestly), but last I checked I can't even rely on them to live through things as simple as "THAT'S FIRE, YOU IDIOT!!! DON'T STAND THERE!!" or "You're about to be Stunned! Please actually Block this time! Please... aaaand he didn't Block... 🤦 Aaaand now he's dead. Again."
It's just comical and sad how poorly they perform in many such situations.

If other people simply aren't having these problems, either I seriously goofed in some way that I'm entirely unaware of (which, again, I'm willing to accept as a distinct possibility)... or they're just doing content that's so easy as to not really be all that relevant, imo. I don't mean to sound elitist or whatever here, but who cares how strong Companions are in a Public Dungeon where other players are also helping take down enemies? That's a terrible bar to judge by, I'd think... right?

Also, I didn't really spend time testing either of them as damage dealers where I was the tank/healer for them, because that just doesn't really interest me all that much (and I know people who are more into that will figure out better damage builds for them than I'd come up with anyway). Maybe that's the secret, and they work great when you are okay with putting more focus on babysitting them. But I was really hoping that wouldn't be necessary, personally. I don't want to be their sidekick, ya know what I mean?
