How to get out of a Dream Sequence?

I'm in this dream to fight a miniboss solo one level above me, I can't beat him as is. I can't get to anywhere to repair my armor or get a better weapon, I can't get to a wayshrine or pay to teleport out, and I can't leave because unless you defeat this guy you remain trapped here.
What do I do to advance my char? If I die again I just hit E to try and get out, but it takes me back to the room before hitting this boss. !?!
